Mixed class travel question

Hi all,
Just a quick question - hopefully someone can help. Am planning on buying my parents tickets to Vancouver next year from Singapore via Hong Kong. At the moment I'm planning on using Air Canada which uses SQ to go from SIN to HKG before switching to their own plane to continue on to YVR. The fare I've looked at is Economy from SIN to HKG then Business for the HKG to YVR leg as it's much longer. I was wondering when they check their baggage in at Changi, I assume it will get checked all the way through to YVR as there's only a short layover. Will it be tagged Business all the way through or Economy? Thanks in advance for your advice.

They should ask for Business tags on the luggage on check in - seems to vary with staff member checking them in !
It may be more economical to book legs separately - mixed class fares seem to attract the higher class fare for the whole journey. As code share partners
they should interline the bags all the way in this case.

In this case, you will of course not have the protection of having the flights ticketed together. So if the SIN-HKG leg gets delayed and you miss the connection, you will have some negotiation to do in HKG!

True - but I did consider the first leg is with SIA - they are reliable unlike some others, allow sufficient time and enjoy the lounge in HK (an enjoyable part of the trip !)

Thanks TiredOldFlyer and ftm for the advice. Hopefully a couple of hours will be enough for them. Now I just need to save up for my own flight!
