Hello.

Recently I went on a Rex flight from Whyalla where the bags were connecting to a VA flight Adeleaide to Melbourne.

On arriving at Mel, I was short of one Qantas tag.

A week or so earlier I went on A Qf flight Mel-Per-Newman where on arrival I was was missing a Velocity tag.

Am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Maybe one airline does not like seeing the opposition tags on their plane?

I have never had an issue with this before.

Or maybe they interfere with their RFID system?

Anyway, contact Qantas and ask for a new one. Shouldn't be too much of an issue to get a new one.

I've lost Velocity Gold tags on a Virgin flight. I reckon it just happens :/

You may have uncovered a secret ploy from the airlines to minimise visual representation of the competing carrier on the baggage belt!

Or, of course, this could just be a co-incidence.............................................................................

Given your experience I guess I should consider myself lucky that they're at least leaving me half a tag.

On my last flight with Virgin (from CBR), I was asked to remove my Qantas smart tag as it would interfere with the baggage system. I was told they share the backend baggage handling system and the smart tag will confuse the system (as it won't be registered for a flight on that time/day).

I just realised both my gold VA bag tags are missing. They were on my 2 checked bags when I left SYD last week and went via ICN to HNL. I think they were still attached in HNL. So I'm guessing they disappeared between HNL & OGG on HA.

Do they have any value to anyone else?

Doubt it, as they have your name and VFF number on them.

I think maybe they get ripped off on the bag elevator.

The reason I say this is because I lost another one a month or so ago and on arrival at Cooly the Q tag was missing but the string part was still there pulled tight.

A couple of days later a bloke rang identifying him self as a Q pilot saying he found my tag on the apron outside his plane! Thought that was quite decent of him, said he would drop it in to baggage services.

Lucky I always use the paper tags and just use the the airline tags as decorations for my bag:p

Yes but the VA tags are metal and I would think they would be very hard to just rip off. The AFF smart tags are both still attached.

Just seems unusual for both to go missing at the same time.

My VA tags are plastic.

I've had two broken (plastic) and I've ordered another two from VA. I'm not sure if they charge for that or not.

I have had replacements from both outfits and they haven't charged.

Maybe they should just send extras at the start!

I also have an emirates bag tag that seems to last the distance and I think the key is the size. It's still plastic with a wire but the tag itself is about half the size of the VA tags.

The card on both. I've now got plenty of spare wires as they don't seem to break.

I know I've had trouble in the past trying to unscrew those wires to put the tags on other bags, which is why I think it's really odd that both went "missing" at the same time. The tags were not broken, they, including the wires, were gone.
