Hi everyone,

I booked return flights Syd-Tokyo with Qantas for my wife, 10 month old daughter and myself a little while ago. I just noticed my daughters name is not capitalised and her first and middle name are as one. For eg: Maryjane Smith instead of Mary Jane Smith.

Will this be a problem? I think it's a minor/trivial error but is it enough to have a problem at check in?

Thanks!

I wouldn't sweat it. Most, if not all check-in agents would use some common sense and not give you a hard time :)

The same happened to me last year and the airline assured me it would be OK and it was.

Would something like this be a problem travelling to the US? I recall someone telling me the full name was required on the ticket otherwise you may experience problems entering the country. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? Perhaps a stupid question but who knows.

It is not a problem at all in the US. The way most of my recent US (international and domestic) bookings have been like this, and on the boarding pass my name appears as either SURNAME FIRSTMIDDLEMR or Surname Firstmiddlemr. Never had a problem with this. Conversely when booking Jetstar Asia from SIN, if I only enter my first name in the booking, they hand-write my middle name onto the boarding pass during check-in, to ensure it matches my passport :!: So now I use the Firstmiddle convention as well.

What if it was entered as SURNAME, FIRST NAME, FIRST MIDDLE NAME INITIAL and left out a second middle name/initial? Would this be a problem?

Mine is often like that and I've never had a problem. Sometimes my name is all in caps (eg. on LAN). It seems as though it may be airline-dependent, so I wouldn't worry.

there is no requirement to add a middle name on the airline PNR at all, even for the USA. The USA however does require the middle name to be provided in secureflight/APIS data.

As long as one has First name and last name in the US, it should be fine. It gets more dicey when one uses his/her middle name instead of the first name.

You MUST provide the middle name and D.O.B as part of the secureflight data for the ticket to be issued for USA itineraries. But like I said the actual NAME field in the booking doesnt require the middle name. I never use mine

Not a problem at all. You will not have an issue at checkin.

No problem. I think I've yet to see anyone with a Brazilian Passport whose ticket actually matches the name in the passport eg passport might be Ana Maria Oliveira Da Silva & the airline booking might be Da Silva/Ana Ms or Oliveira/Ana Ms. This is regardless of whether travelling to LAX SCL EZE etc.

No problem.
