Middle East Airspace Closures [QF9 to LHR cancelled]

Just humouring the use of the great circle map (noting flights often do not follow it exactly), the OP noted the issue is that Iran may attack Israel. The route map attached appears to go very close to Israel which would be the other party in such an incident.

Edit: modified “over” to “close to”
Looking at recent trips on FR24, the standard route appears to fly in between Iran and Israel, right over Iraq.

The updated route goes well around Iran. Good to see them proactively responding to these risk to protect their planes!!

QF suggested origin/destination demand very strong on the route - not sure which cabin though.
Sure but the 787-9 carries less than half of the passengers on a full A380

If demand is very strong, why is there only one PER-LHR?. . It used to be a double A380 (and before that more 747 between Australia and London???)
Now it's the equivalent of 1.5 A380

Put a second 787-9 on the route and see what happens to seat yields. Is this just limiting seats and targeting higher yielding passengers?.
Me thinks there is a bit of hyperbole involved.

What’s interesting is pax flying on QF tickets but EK metal to Europe, which are flying the route that QF has deemed too risky….

I've always said that safety is a low consideration for most passengers and for that matter airline travel influencers who spruik airline products.

Egypt too apparently

I've seen rogue reports of that but none from creditable sources.

Flightradar shows a massive amount of civil aircraft in its airspace right now.

QF10 recently flew over Egypt, Saudi, UAE and Oman to get home.

Looks like limited to border areas / Sinai peninsula as aircraft as they seem to be tracking down the Red Sea before turning into Saudi.

AF257 from SIN is indeed diverting to CAI - guessing fuel related

Airlines flying over eastern Iran:
Emirates
Turkish
FlyDubai
Thai
Iranian airlines (natch)

QR coming in from China/Japan/Moscow only.

Emirates flights (including to/from London)

Personally, I wouldn't be wild about being on this flight, right now

Iran has said the attack has concluded (once these reach their targets). Now it’s a question of the retaliation.

RAF are sending reinforcements.

Iran's UN delegation allege on X that their mission has concluded.

Will be interesting to see if things settle down quickly or there is some silly retaliation to a failed exercise.

I hope this is the end but i doubt it - Israel and US will take revenge... i fear this is just the beginning :( @justinbrett

I think this might (hopefully) be the end of it. The Iranians would have known this attack would be ineffective but they've been seen to respond now. The fact that no damage has been inflicted on Israel might (hopefully) be the out that this is all over now. Suspect this attack was about the optics, not actually inflicting damage.

</my 2 cents>

QF don't exactly have spare 787s sitting idle to do this.

I don't understand why those on the east coast are so sore about the success to PER-LHR. It's clearly a very profitable route with all cabins generally full. Why so much hate?

Anything to dump on Perth, really. We are not wanted by the rest of the country, and nothing we do will ever be worthwhile, or if it is worthwhile, acknowledged. Qantas flying successful international routes out of Perth runs counter to that narrative.
