Hi Affers

Just noticed that MH opens INT check-in at T-2 (which is a pain for a 21:40 SYD-KUL flight), I know it's a long shot but any thoughts on the possibility of checking bags and getting boarding passes at the QF F desk?

Cheers!

No can't be done as QF wouldn't have access to MH check in.

I thought it was T-2 as well according to the MH website but checkin at HKG for MH opened at T-3. (thankfully as I wanted to spend more time in the CX F lounge).

Are you sure it's T-2? I know that they do open up earlier at PER but things may have changed since the last time I've flown them.

In BKK and SIN early in morning sometimes it is more like T-~2.5 hours.

MH check-in is done by Menzies in SYD and QF have no access to check-in for a MH flight, although if there was a QF domestic flight before hand, QF could issue the BP at another port.

Must admit my only flight with MH was back in February just after they joined OneWorld but back then Qantas couldn't issue the BP on a domestic connecting flight either. It may have changed. What Qantas did for me however was issue what I will best describe as a 'bogus' boarding pass that allowed me airside in the international terminal, I then had to go to the lounge to get the MH boarding pass for the flight to KL and my connecting onwards flight out of KL. The 'bogus' pass issued by Qantas had more or less everything but seat allocation and they did it for me because my connection time in Sydney was so long. So long in fact the MH lounge wasn't open at first so had to rough it in the Qantas lounge for a few hours.

Howdy folks - I'd be interested to find out if anyone knows if things are now working here with MH and Qantas? Are their systems better linked? I have an awkward route to BLR next week which will see my flying SYD-BNE-SIN on QF, and then SIN-KUL-BLR with MH. I'll be checking in at the premium desk at T3 SYD, and wondering what to expect... flying out from home far earlier than I would usually like, so I will probably be half asleep! I figured interline baggage would be fine, but wasn't sure about BPs, etc.

Cheers!

Worst case scenario for you will be bags through checked all the way, collect MH boarding pass at transfer desk in SIN.

Isn't it a simple rule that only the operating carrier can check you in unless you are checking in at the operating carrier of a multi sector trip?

Simon, sorry not exactly sure what you are asking? No offence but your question doesn't make sense?

When it comes to check-in I don't think there are any rules of thumb, it all depends upon the agreements between the airlines.

Qantas will as a matter of policy through check all bags regardless of carrier if they are on the same booking, but will only through check to OneWorld carriers if different bookings.

When it comes to boarding passes Qantas will issue boarding passes for all OneWorld carriers*, for non OneWorld it depends on their specific agreements. For example Qantas will issue a BP for SQ but not TG.

* The exception here is Malaysian due to their newness in OneWorld. Things may have changed, but when they first entered Qantas couldn't issue their boarding passes.

Thanks ajw373 - that'll be enough for me. I have time, but just wanted to avoid clearing at Changi and coming back in. I forgot to mention these are on seperate tickets - but both OW, so fingers crossed QF will be nice.

That is correct.

If on a CX-QF flights on same itinerary then CX can issue both boarding passes.

If on different itineraries they will not issue all boarding passes.

Has happened to me many times in SIN and HKG where I have had to go to transfer desk to collect boarding passes as CX or MH would not issue them in BKK.

Not sure how relevant this is but MH issued a QF boarding pass for me in KUL as I was connecting through SIN.

On the same itinerary?

I suspect if you had an MH booking KUL-SIN and a QF booking SIN-SYD then MH would not have been able to issue you with a QF boarding pass. And if they are able to do it they are very reluctant to do it as possibly they do not know how or it takes too much time.

It was a single itinerary KUL>SIN>SYD MH to SIN and QF to SYD, I had both boarding passes issued to me at KUL printed on MH boarding passes.

Single 'bookings' can have both airlines produce the onward boarding passes. This isn't to do with OW, but to do with IATCI (InterAirline Through Check-in) agreements between the airlines and their respective DCS (check-in system).

In practice, QF can issue SQ (and quite a few other airlines) boarding passes if connecting to their flights (or v.v.)

Update: OK, so the good news... QF Premium Desk at SYD T3 were able to check my bags through to BLR on MH, even though I had separate QF & MH itineraries / tickets. The better news - they were also able to produce the BPs for ALL segments at T3, so no need even to collect at SIN (again - separate itineraries / tickets). The BEST news... I got my 1st QF op-up to J for the BNE-SIN flight! I was in Y+, but that and Y appeared oversold... so very glad I didn't put that upgrade request in a few weeks ago now! :D

Cheers.

Way to go dairyfloss! :)

Thanks for updating us, enjoy your trip and do report back on how your MH experience was..

Does the MH boarding pass that QF produced look like a regular QF BP(Does it still have your status printed?), or have they printed it on MH boarding stock?
