probably time to give it up, isn't it?

i am a WP, LTG etc, have been based in the UK for 6 years and kept my QFF membership in preference to BA on the basis that I liked to fly the roo home (and that earning FFs/upgrades on that route was more important)

i earn the bulk of my credits on BA metal (almost 5k this year), but will usually give my business to qantas whenever i go home (for business or pleasure) so some years they'll only get a single Y flight out of me, but this year (for example) they've got a RTW and a LHR-MEL J full fares

but with no direct flights from europe on qantas metal as of next march, loyalty bonuses etc being reduced, it seems like qf and qff are not so interested in expat customers anymore. is it time for me to make the switch to BA and just leave the LTG in place with qantas in case i ever return to live in oz?

There were no direct flights to Europe from Aus in the first place?
All they've done is change partners on the route to LHR and now fly via DXB instead of SIN. QF metal is still going to LHR.

there are currently direct UK-Aus flights (w/ refuel in Asia) on QF metal - don't think that's the case with the Emirates tie up, it'll be Emirates metal from DXB to London (and presumably you won't be able to use QFFs to upgrade etc - same as if you go via HKG on a BA/QF flight at the moment).

Sorry wasn't thinking this early in the morning, took direct to mean non-stop... whoops.
QF1 SYD-LHR will still take off SYD and end up in LHR. One flight number, same plane, QF metal. Only difference is that there will be a fuel stop in DXB instead of SIN. Codeshare agreements for flights via BKK and HKG flying QF to Asia then BA to LHR are still there as well IIRC.

No, that is not correct. QF are still flying to LHR, the only thing that changes is the refuel point.

AA may be a better choice. Especially give the AA _BA co-operation operation Look at earn / burn rates.

I agree - if you have made LTG with QFF may be worth looking at other FF schemes - BA and AA seem the obvious choices for you at the moment, and will be good to have LTG if/when you return to Australia.
