Hi all,

An opportunity has presented itself to spend New Years and a few days either side in NYC with a friend and I'm thinking about taking it up.

I currently have approx. 60K SQ points, 22K MR points, 212K Altitude points and roughly 200K QF points. I currently have no status with any airline.

I'm hoping to fly to the US on a paid Y ticket (might try and upgrade to J using points) on a *A carrier (e.g. SQ) and credit to Aegean to get *A SG (might need to credit positioning flights too to top up) + do a status run in the US using AA YUPP/KUPPs credit to QF to achieve WP. The latter will be useful for the expected paid Y QF flight back (I'd never fly Int'l Y unless I had to such as for the *A SG or, in this case, to sit next to my friend).

Beyond the flights from AUS to USA and back I'd like to limit the status run and positioning flights to no more than $2.5K but this is not a line-in-the-sand. To minimise costs I could, for example fly MEL-LAX, position to HNL, do a HNL-SAL-HNL (with many stop-over/transit cities) status run, then position to JFK, have the holiday and fly back with friend to MEL. Or whatever. The flying back on QF with said friend is not essential and I could holiday in NYC and status run afterwards before heading home as an alternative--I'd have to confirm dates to figure out whether beforehand is doable or after NYC holiday.

Any advice with suggesting routings to achieve my status goals will be much appreciated and will not go unrewarded (negotiable: $50, a QP pass or two or something).

Thanks in advance!

Friend has decided not to go so trip is off :( but an interesting planning exercise nonetheless :)
