Okay, I have started looking at some options for our end of year trip (should have probably jumped on it earlier) and looking at the best value options with the mishmash of points I now have left over after spending a heap last year. Would be happy to get away with spending around $1000-$1500 max per person.

Annoyingly I didn't cash up when Lifemiles had it's 140% sale late last year.

I have 110,000 QF points and 300,000 VF points available. I will be able to increase both of these balances a bit in the near future. But would prefer to conserve some VFF points for down the track as I try and grow the balance to 500,000 for a Europe trip.

My initial thoughts are bolded:

24/12/16 MEL-BKK x 1
  1. QFF - Business Class on MH for 66000 points + approx $300
  2. VFF through SQ - Business Class on SQ for 63112 points (46750SQ) + approx $350 (Currently only waitlist)
  3. Cash economy fare

27/12/16 SYD-BKK x 1

  1. QFF - Business Class on MH for 66000 points + approx $300
  2. VF through SQ - Business Class on SQ for 63112 points (46750SQ) + approx $350 (Currently only waitlist)
  3. Cash economy fare

31/12/16 BKK-CTS x 2 (can be a few days after)
  1. Lifemiles - Business Class
  2. QFF - Business Class on JL for 53000 points + approx $200 per person. 106000 points + $400 total.
  3. Cash economy fare

14/01/17 CTS-MEL x 2 (can be a few days after)
  1. Lifemiles - Business Class for USD$1341 with current promo. $950 per person.
  2. Cash economy fare for approx $700 per person

So ideally I think it is looking like this for an all Business Class trip:

1. MEL/SYD-BKK - 126,224 Velocity Points + $600
2. BKK-CTS - 106,000 QF points + $400
3. CTS-MEL - Lifemiles $1900

Only issue is the SQ flights are waitlist only, but hopeful that with 1 seat only it would come through but kinda need it locked in.

So has anyone else got a better way of making use of the points/$$??

So I have ended up booking:
MEL-BKK: TG through KF for 55,000 KF miles (74250 VA points) + $315
SYD-BKK: Same as above
BKK-NGO-CTS: JL through 53,000 QF points and $34
Have bought 34k Lifemiles for about $720 but yet to lock in the flights home.

Am tossing up how much time I can have off work to ski! And to convince the wife. Will definitely be 2 weeks but might try and make it 3. There is plenty of availability at the moment but will try and lock something in with the next week or so. I had to lock something in going over as the dates matter more then and are busier because of Christmas.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
