Hi! I was wondering which VA flights offer full meal service in Y between MEL and PER. Last time I flew VA (MEL->PER in Dec '14), I received a snack-sized (150 cal or so) burrito - this was a flight that departed at 8.30ish so I'm guessing there's a cut off time where they stop serving dinner and start serving a 'refreshment'. I couldn't find anything about coast to coast meal service on the website, though - can anyone help?

2235 PER-MEL on Sunday offered the "refreshment" - vegetable mornay pie (rather tasty), piece of banana and walnut cake, and a small pack of breath mints. Perfectly fine for a 3 hour flight IMO.

It's def a "MEAL" , not huge but as lovedbymarylane says, its's fine for 3 Hour flight.

If you're lucky you get a Chocolate Mousse by Harry's (Brunswick VIC) . Flavours | Harry's Ice Cream Co

It's a elusive Mousse , hardly seen on the mainland, Sometimes between MEL-PER and occasionally between SYD/MEL/PER and DPS. It seems to prefer the longer haul's.

If the flight departs at 2030 or later then it is supper service where it will be a hot snack item (toastie, pie, quiche etc) and the supper bag with cake, water and mints. Supper service only exists on Australian transcontinental services (not DPS, HKT, etc).

Flights before 0929 receive breakfast. At 0930-2030 it is lunch/dinner. All these times are based on the departure city.

I hope this information helps.

Well, the flight is 4 hours 15 from PER to MEL... last time I was trying to be thrifty and skipped dinner, expecting tray service, and that was quite the mistake! We definitely didn't get cake either - just the hot snack item.

Thanks bubblyguy - very handy info!

I was amazed that the last trip I took PER-MEL on a 330 only took 2:50 ... yes, _under_ 3 hours! I have a recollection that the 73H is not as quick though, its been a while since I've done a 737 as I'm not a big fan of this narrow body platform.

When traveling Y I always make the effort to snack in the lounge first - not assuming anything for the Y meal. Something normally arrives in flight, but it might not suit my taste, or might be too small, or whatever. Load up on toasted sandwiches first :)

4 hours 15 seems like the flight time the other way around. I would suggest the flight time is stated as 3 hours 30 from memory

Mousse? What is this mousse of which you speak? I haven't been fortunate enough to come across it yet on any of our journeys to and fro between PER and the East Coast, it must indeed be an elusive creature as you say. :)
