Apart from what for many may be the lack of comfort travelling on a B738 from SYD to DPS, OD172, the 0655 hours SYD-DPS-KUL is constantly late.

On Tuesday 2 May 2023, it took off from SYD with B738 9M-LRK at 720 hours, slated arrival becoming 1146 hours, 41 late. Yesterday it arrived DPS 88 late, on Sunday it was 36 late at gate in DPS, on Saturday, 76 minutes tardy and on Friday, 61 minutes behind schedule. Inevitably, the second leg from DPS to KUL is also unpunctual.

OD172 in the past week has had shocking timekeeping. This is the scheduled 0655 hours morning SYD-DPS that continues on to KUL with a timetabled Bali departure at 1205 hours.

It has been as late as 224 minutes arriving at KUL, although an hour and a bit late seems more common into either.

This morning, B73M (if that's the correct way to describe a 737 MAX) 9M-LRM was airborne from SYD at 0808 hours, so DPS arrival should be at about 1138 hours, 33 late, one of the smallest delays it's recently incurred.

The inbound OD171 seems to almost always operate on time - it's due into SYD at 0605 hours - but the timetabled allowance of 50 minutes (in theory sufficient to turn a B738 variant around) seems unrealistic given this is an international flight with the return working trying to get away at a super busy time of most mornings, given large numbers of complex international arrivals that may block departures from pushing back, and many domestic departures as well, except on Sunday mornings for the latter.

On Sunday 11 June 2023, ID6004, the early morning, unattractively timed 0500 hours MEL-DPS took off at 0510 with B738 PK-BGO. Arrival at gate should be at around 0923 hours, 33 late, presumably due to adverse winds.

King's Birthday 12 June 2023 sees ID6004 (B738 PK-BGR, the awfully timed 0500 hours MEL-DPS) taking off at 0515 hours, on time or a few minutes early but with suggested gate arrival at 0943 hours, 53 behind.

OD172 (B73X 9M-LRL) is the 0655 hours SYD-DPS in the sky at 0723 hours, with its gate arrival perceived as 1153 hours, 48 behind, so quite similar.

OD172 on Wednesday 14 June is the 0655 hours morning SYD-DPS that was up up and away at 0740 hours with B73X 9M-LRM. Gate arrival is predicted for 1216 hours, 71 minutes behind the timetable.

ID6004, the 0500 hours MEL-DPS Saturday 17 June 2023 early morning departure took off at 0523. B738 PK-BGR should arrive at 0953 hours, 63 late, due to adverse winds I assume.

OD158 (Tuesday 27 June, the scheduled 0715 hours BNE-DPS) took off at 0850 with B73X 9M-LRL. Arrival at gate should be at 1318 hours, 93 late due to adverse winds.

OD178, the Friday 7 July 0700 hours MEL-DPS (B73X 9M-LRM) has not taken off by 0942 hoyrs, so will be at least two hours late arriving in Bali.

Tuesday 18 July 2023 sees ID6004, the early morning 0500 hours MEL-DPS having taken off at 0535 with B738 PK-BGZ. Arrival at gate should be about 0943 hours, 53 late.

On Monday 7 August, ID6006 (PK-BGX, a B738) as the 0830 hours SYD-DPS took off at 0912. Arrival should be 1346 hours, 51 late.

The aircraft had only been seven minutes late arriving in Sydney this morning as ID6005 (at 0747 hours) but a 50 minute turnaround for an international flight is most unrealistic in Australia. (It mostly works in Europe, although I always travel by rail there and avoid horrible RyanAir and Easyjet).

Tuesday 15 August's ID6004, the early morning 0500 hours MEL-DPS took off at 0520 with B738 PK-BGR. Arrival at gate is estimated as 44 minutes late at 0944 hours.
