I did a search through the board for Macau, but the most recent was 2009. Things seem to have changed a lot there in a couple of years - there are lots of ferries from the airport and new casinos are open and running.

Mrs_Gimlet fancies seeing the glitz and kitsch for a night, so we were thinking of doing a night there straight from the airport and then back to HK. We don't actually gamble so it's more wandering around going ooh. We have been to Macau for lunch but not the casinos.

Hotel prices look keen (compared to HK) but have very little idea of which ones meet our criteria. I was looking at the Venetian but open to general suggestions. It may not come off if ferries and flights don't align.

Did a day trip to Macau last year, and as a huge las vegas fan, it was a huge disappointment.

Went to see the venetian and city of dreams. (they're 'next' to each other)
it's about 10 min shuttle ride from the city/ferry terminal

city of dreams won't take too long to walk around. no much to see there
venetian is very pretty, and lots of shops to browse. But no where near the glitz and kitsch of LV.

Had some yum cha on the gambling floor of the venetian, wasn't very good.

Friends told me there's a lot more to do in the city and the food is a lot better.

Recommend taking getting the 'business class' tickets for ferry. Only costs a little bit more, but you get food and priority boarding/disembarking and a view. Have your camera ready!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The old Portugese part of Macau is good but I was not a big fan of the casinos. I am not a bug gambler and having heard it described as the Vegas of the east I thought the casinos would have more than just wall to wall gambling and people spitting and smoking.

Just spent 2 nights in Macau.

Ferry from Hong Kong downtown (misplaced luggage receipts so couldn't transfer direct)

Had the most fabulous experience of any hotel I have ever stayed at - Conrad Macau, visited the tower, went to the top of the mountain look out, saw Pandas, had a little gamble, saw The House of the Dancing Water show at The City of Dreams (15.5/10 on the wow scale, and I'm not a show fan at all!)

Other than that, quite a boring place to try and cam sightseeing into 2 days - I might return for a few more days to see more. Weather was cold dreary and hazy.

I thought this show was fantastic too. We spent 3 nights at the Venetian but it wasn't long enough. We have a friend who works there and showed us all the sights. Some great local restaurants, shopping and casinos that we wouldn't have otherwise found.
