Hey there AFFers

As you may have gathered from previous posts, the Mr, Mrs, and young Master & Miss Here2go are doing Christmas in Austria, Germany and Finland rather than with the extended family down south or suffering through what becomes a ghost-town over the holiday period (at least 40% of DRW passes through the airport over Christmas according a conversation Mrs Here2go had with senior management of DRW Airport)

Anyway, we didn't want the stress of lugging tailored skiboots and associated around Europe with a three year old and 15 month old, and were umming and ahhing about how best to deal with them, we've got the allowance for the plane. We considered
  • Send luggage with a courier like Personal Porter, DHL for at least $300 each direction
  • Send the boots via surface mail now to the the Ski Resort for $120 ex DRW with Skippy Post, and €100 back with Austrian Post

These all looked overly expensive, noting we had the plane to get stuff to MUC already paid for.

Anyway, I came across this link on the Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) website Courier luggage airport service relating to their courier service. For €24.80, Deutsche Bahn will arrange pickup of your bag from MUC, FRA (T1&T2), HAM, HAJ, LEJ and TXL at their counters, and send your bags to the door in DE, FR, AT and South Tirol, and to the station in CH and LU.
Heading back, you can arrange to send your bag to the Deutsche Bahn counter at the airport with Deutsche Bahn in DE and AT, and with the rail service in the other countries (SBB-CH, SNCF-FR, CFL-LU & Trenitalia - South Tirol). If it is held at the airport for more than three business days, they will charge €2-3 per day.

This looks quite reasonable, with timings for courier 2-5 working days depending on where luggage was going, so intend on using this service, so I thought I'd share the love.
