Has anyone flown in the Premium Economy seats and give an opinion?

By all accounts it isn't as good as some of the other PE products out there, and varies depending on the aircraft type as to how much privacy you get from the main Economy cabin.

Might be too late for you but a mate and I are flying to Germany on LH from SIN in about 10 days, with my mate in the front row of PE on the A380. I'll ask him how it was and revert.

Thanks for that. I too am looking at that service SIN-FRA (LH778/LH779). It is keenly priced for the dates I am looking at (31Aug/24Sept). Only available seats are the centre rows. I have tentatively put my bum in 52D/52G for the leg room. Hope these are not too open.
I have selected Y SYD-SIN on SQ. I will allocate entire journey points to SQ rather than LH.

I have booked SYD-SIN-FRA-AMS-FRA-SIN-SYD 31Aug/24Sept for a cost of $2848. At short notice it is good value. Same deal SQ was a couple of thou more than this.
SYD-SIN in Y on SQ
SIN-FRA/FRA-SIN PE on LH A380
FRA-AMS-FRA Y on LH
SIN-SYD Y on SQ A380

Just in the time I procrastinated since previous post I lost my place on a FRA-AMS connection so now have a 3.40hr layover in FRA.

Thanks for the link MelTraveller. I ended up cancelling the flight and rebooking again this morning when the better FRA-AMS connection came back on screen. Don't know what happened to it last night. I selected seats 52D and 52G for the return as they do not have any seats in front and bulkhead is off to the side. Not sure if that is a good choice or not.

The trip report indicated the serving of alcohol. I did not know this was part of the deal...happy if it is.

Don't most (non-LCC) airlines serve alcohol on long haul flights?

The most notable exceptions to full service airlines serving alcohol are dry airlines (and possibly still some US carriers?)

Just about everyone else will have something on board! LH certainly does.

Yes. Except the dry airlines. I think even the US airlines are going back to serving something in Y on TPAC and Trans-Atlantic routes, even if it is only beer and wine.

As there were a few seats vacant in the PE cabin, a p/a announcement was made about the benefits of PE, and that a limited number of seats were available for upgrade from economy for €349. During this process, prospective upgraders were shown the seats that were available, including two middle seats to the right of me. Eventually, a middle-aged couple purchased those seat upgrades and settled in, after (unintentially on their part) unsettling me. They were nice, and no disturbance at all after they were settled (in PE, no need to have the seat next to you vacant to have comfortable lateral space). But the process annoyed me - why not take care of these upsells at check-in and/or the gate?

What an incredibly tacky procedure. Were fully paid Y+ pax expected to give testimonials to prospective discount upgraders to help them make up their mind?!

Forgot to update here.

My mate was in 50C which is front row bulkhead on the LH A380 lower deck in PE a couple of weeks ago now from SIN-FRA.

He said the crew were great, food average (but he'd just got off an SQ flight in J) and said he would definitely do LH PE again instead of paying for J.

Row 50 is definitely the pick on the LH A380 in PE. Also there are toilets exclusively for PE and the cabin is separated from Y, unlike on most other LH aircraft.

Interestingly his observation was that the cabin was mostly Germans and Aussies even though it was ex-SIN.

He must have booked well ahead. I have tried to secure a seat in that row but 5/6 weeks out all of the outside row availability was gone. Only some of the centre row seats remain. I was in 52D SIN-FRA and will be 52G return. Endless legroom in that seat though there is no-where to stow anything. The IFE did not work there entire 12hr flight and one dopey hostie kept cutting the corner and woke me 3 times when each time she ran into my feet which were on the foot rest directly in front of me.
Re the IFE. The senior CA took my details and on the report noted there were no spare seats to which I could be moved and it was not possible to compensate me onboard. She indicated that I would be contacted by LH. So far a week has passed and not even an email from them. I would not pay big bucks for PE but it might be worth paying a little more as I did this time.

Always sucks to have a poor experience and be let down by the crew. I wouldn't assume LH will proactively compensate you or get in touch, if I were you I'd be contacting them.
My mate did seat selection approx. 5 weeks out. He had no status with any *A carrier (not even a FF number in the booking at the time) and snagged it.

...

Just tried doing exactly that (contact them) without success at all. The method of contact must be via online feedback form. I think as soon as you select from the drop-down menu Inflight and then select Complaint the HTML code automatically blocks you submitting the form. I have tried 5 times to submit and each time I get an Access Denied message. Good way to say you get few complaints.

Might have to write a full trip report on this one.
