Hi all,

I have searched the forum but I couldn't see similar threads so here's a new one.

Can you share your experiences with relocation companies in Sydney (or elsewhere for that matter)? We are thinking of hiring such a company to assist us in the first period in Sydney. They promise things like:

- airport pickup
- arrangment of temporary accommodation
- assistance in the choice of neighborghoud
- arranging rental contracts and administration regarding the rental home
- contacting doctors, day care and whatnot

It does sound good, although it is pricey (between $3000 and $4000). We are very much in doubt because that amount of money buys you a month or longer in hotels... Our main focus is finding and arranging a good price for a rental home.

Does anyone have experiences with the Relocation companies?

Thanks in advance,
JayGreenstein

From my experience relocating countries as well as state/city within Australia:

If moving to Sydney, start by looking at where your job is. Secure a hotel in that location, i.e. if in the south west areas such as Liverpool, Meucure have a great property in Oxton Park, the same applies to may areas across Sydney.
Rental property is easy to get, and depending on budget can vary from area to area on an expodential growth cost wise the closer to the city you get. No body except you can decide upon areas of town to live, it depends on your wants and needs. Sydney has huge traffic problems, so where you are based for work, may define your area.

You will find most things like power, gas, water and telephone are very easy to get connected - there are free websites available that will accommodate all of these items in one go. If you are renting a property, the agent will help with that anyway.

My advice is wing it!

Find a hotel close to where you are working, buy a car (and a GPS!) and drive around till you find an area that looks suitable, then visit www.realestate.com.au and search that area for what you may be looking for.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
