Hi All,

Am flying to London in November and am planning on staying in Paddington - primarily for ease of access to Paddington Station and the Heathrow Express.

However, I have found the rates for the Hilton at Paddinton to be very expensive for November ($450+ for a standard room) - about double what I paid for the same hotel in February this year! I have no idea why or maybe they just haven't released any cheap rooms yet....

Subsequently I'm looking at cheaper options around Praed St and neighborhood - I know there is the Mercure next door, the Hilton Metropole, a Novotel somewhere and a Hotel Indigo - not to mention a few short stay apartments found on airbnb.com

Is anyone familiar with the area to point me in the right direction of good accomodation options or should I not limit myself to Paddington and head to Covent Garden/Piccadilly etc

Thanks for your help!

I have tried Hilton Canary Wharf and Hilton Metropole as well as Hilton Paddington. The best one for me was Canary Wharf as they do a room upgrade to concierge level for 9 pounds.

Chilworth Court apartments are a great option. If you are traveling by yourself, the studio apartment is perfect. If you're with someone, then the 1 bedroom would be a little roomier. Easy walk to Paddington and close to the Park. It's handy having your own kitchen with daily service.

I agree. Stayed at Hotel Indigo in December. Very trendy, great cost - loved it!

Last time in UK we stayed at the Royal Park, about half way between Lancaster Gate and Paddington (no more than 5-10 minute walk to the station). Great location, service and reasonable cost.

I stayed at the The Park Grand London Paddington 2 years ago. About 5-10 minutes walk from Paddington station. I booked a single room and it was without doubt the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in, but it was comfortable, clean and had all the usual amenities, and was reasonably priced at the time. And the aircon worked very well, but that may not be a consideration in November.

I did not eat there, but they have a dining area at least for breakfast, and a small 'club lounge' which they let me into to (from a fading memory) print something off the net. I was happy with the place.

Put me down as another fan of the Hotel Indigo. Great funky but friendly little 'boutique' hotel, a few minutes' walk from Paddington station, right near where the Heathrow Express comes out. Don't even need to catch the Tube back into the city, just jump on one of the buses at the stop on London Street, the 7 and the 23 both take you past Marble Arch to Oxford Circus, and the other direction of the 7 takes you to Notting Hill Gate. My tip: get a room at the Indigo away from the street, as there are a lot of hotels along here, especially in the square across the road from the Indigo, and the constant foot traffic and tourist flow makes a bit of noise.
