I managed to book a flight to LHR to NYC (F) on BA & return (J) NYC to LHR on BA.

I have a quick question, has anyone been to the BA lounges in BA (Terminal 5) or JFK (Terminal 7)?

What are they like? If they aren't any good would I be able to use Cathay or American Airlines Lounges?

Hi,
The lounges in T5 are quite nice. As you are in F, I assume you can use the Concorde Room (not sure if it's available to award F). Even if you have to use the F lounge, it's quice nice. Champage and wine bars, some food.

I haven't been to the JFK lounge for about 18 months. It wasn't anything special.

Actually i thought the JFK BA lounge was fine. They actually had a promotion on when I was last there (SME's who won some competition to the UK and return) so there were heaps of people there as they had basically an "extra" flight, but it was still quite comfortable and relaxed.

You should have no issues at either airport.

Thanks guys

I am flying on an award - so does that mean I can't use the concorde lounge :(

I think with award F would be OK for Concorde but I don't think you can use concorde on F arrivals and when you leave you are in J which is a no access into concorde lounge

Don'[t know what criteria the other respndants use when reporting on lounges - but I found the F lounge at Terminal 5 to be outstanding in terms of decore - and, their dining opportunities sure as heck beat those in Terminal 3! The decor is elegant modern British (define that as you will), and it was a pleasure spending two hours there a couple of years back. Have also used the J lounge in Terminal 5 - that too was quite acceptable, though deifnitely a come down from the F/Concorde area.

+1 there aren't a lot of poor BA lounges and those that are tend to be the QF/BA joint ones . The F lounge in T5 LHR is v good, and likewise the JFK lounge is too :)

I did a reverse routing of this in June, JFK-LCY (C/W LCY) and LHR-JFK (F) on award.
You shouldn't have a problem accessing the CCR as your ticket is for F, although IMHO it's really not alot to write home about at all. The only other lounge is BA Galleries J/F which you may want to check out if you can be bothered. Ring BA F service desk if you want to book a Cabana in CCR (not worth it unless you have a long transit really) and to book a Spa treatment if thats your cup of tea.
At JFK (assuming you aren't flying out of EWR), you have access to the Terraces J section, and pre flight dining as you are flying J, plus if theres a free timeslot you can have a spa treatment.
:)

No experience of T5 F lounge (only T3 which is pretty nice), but have to say the JFK F lounge was a waste of time, having little worth speaking about. CW Dining and showers etc are all in the J lounge which is pretty comfortable.

Mrs Pineapple and I flew out of LHR T5 on an F award and yep we went to Concorde lounge, no problem. If the BP says F, thats all you need

Cheers skip

Sorry  was referring to the J lounge as the OP is flying J from JFK, and do agree with your comments about the F lounge. First/ business private security lane is an added bonus at JFK

Agreed; when Mr & Mrs Tooner and the 3 toonerettes returned from JFK it was very, very useful:p
