I'm looking at flying from Budapest to Reykjavik with BA next July as part of a One World 280k booking. Flights offered are BA853 arriving LHR 0805 connecting with BA800 departing at 0920. I've previously experienced air traffic delays landing at LHR at this time, and I have a real concern that this connection might be a problem.

Can anyone advise what BA would do if I missed the connection? Would they put me on a flight with Iceland Air or some other carrier or would I have to wait for the next BA flight? BA only fly LHR-KEF Sun, Wed and Fri, so the next BA flight would be 2 or 3 days later.

Hi do you know what the MCT is? If not legal it shouldn't be allowed to be booked on one ticket.

Oh and how important is it for your checked luggage to make the complete journey?

Hmm.... Heathrow delays!
Conjures up a lot previous effected experiences for me.

If your checked through on the same PNR, one would think BA should look after you & put you up on another carrier, although BA, IMO are not as friendly in this regard as a carrier like QF might be in a similar situation .
So be prepared to stand your ground if you miss your connection in Heathrow.

BTW, Iceland is a beautiful destination, certainly quite a different destination from a visual perspective & well worth a visit.

BA853 is a flight from DUBIN, not from Budapest.

The budapest flight arrives too late to make the connection to KEF.

If flying from DUB, or even BUD, I would fly the night before.

While you might be covered by EU261, if the delay is caused by ATC the airline might get an exemption.

I'm not so sure there is a lot of evidence to support this claim? Lots of examples where passengers on delayed flights have been required to wait for the next available QF service. Compare with US based carriers who will willingly route you on any available flight, even a different alliance, as required.

Hmm, I had the flight to LHR wrong. The one world timetable shows BA853 is PRG-LHR, which was another option I was considering. The BA site doesn't show any flights when I enter PRG-KEF, so maybe the connection fails the rules.

Another option, TXL-KEF works on the site, so I guess this has a legal connection. It's TXL-LHR BA981 which arrives 5 mins earlier at 0800, then LHR-KEF BA 800 departing 0920. I'm still a bit worried that landing delays would have me missing BA 800.

Maybe I'll skip Iceland this trip and spend some more time in east Europe instead. I'd probably save a few dollars if I visited Hungary and Poland instead of Iceland!

I entered in the wrong flight number as well! Yes - 853 is from Prague. (835 is DUB)

I wouldn't chance Heathrow on such a short connection unless there were back-up flights. Here KEF is a day or more away - not worth the stress.

Loved Iceland- completely worth it! If BA schedule is not working Icelandair flights are quite good as most are linking to the US via Rejkavik which was our choice from LHR.

I could arrange things to do the LHR connection on a Sunday. How likely are LHR delays on a Sunday morning?
