Advance apologies if this question has appeared in any other section.
As mentioned in another post I created, I have finally snared a bargain for my Dec 20th flight to LAX, returning late January with Air New Zealand for $2450pp with a TA for my wife and I. QF's best offering was $3300!
I don't really care about the short stopovers in AKL each way.
My question now is on accomodation close to LAX. We arrive there at 1pm and need a hotel for one night before our connecting flight to Toronto the following morning. We also need a hotel on our return transit stop that will be for around 24 hours.
I'm with Priority Club and looking at the Holiday Inn LAX but am a little apprehensive after reading some negative reviews in Tripadvisor. Tripadvisor sometimes complicates the issue with the VERY mixed mainly-US opinions from the contributors.
All I want is a nice hotel, close enough to LAX, good food options (love a brekky buffet:) and one that is baby friendly. (my wife only has 9 weeks to go now!). Maybe all that is asking a bit much!
I would really love your opinions and suggestions.

ashsta77,

There was a similar thread to this in the last few months though I'm not sure of the outcome of the thread. If I find it easily I'll add to this post.

The only one I've stayed at in the last 18 months was the LAX Embassy Suites (north) and that was quite good.

Hi Ashta77

I stayed in the Westin LAX 3 weeks ago and found it pleasant enough, although I don't recommend doing the buffet breakfast downstairs. Mind you, I only paid $90 for the single night using Priceline. The only issue was the shuttle bus from the airport, or rather the way they pick you up in the middle of some traffic island with the rest of any other flights that recently landed which leaves you very little room to move and spot your shuttle let alone dangerous. You're almost better off with a taxi.

I'd say most of the four star hotels at LAX should be fine for your purposes. BTW, if you get in at 1pm, you'd still have time to do Unviersal Studios (the whole park, closes at 8pm'ish) if you bought a 'Front of the line' pass and got a $80 return towncar from the hotel. The Westin has a deal with the park whereby you get $10 if you book at Westin. Definite must is the new Simpsons ride and definite waste of time is the Special Effects 'thing'. Everthing else was 'meh' - no highs, no lows.

If you can find it cheap, the Sheraton LAX is reasonable, and certainly very close to LAX.

I'm keen to try the Westin LAX next time though...both are roughly the same price through our corporate deal.

Cheers,
- Febs.

ashsta77,

If you use the Hilton group don't forget to insert your NRMA/RACV (or what ever) number to get the AAA discount. It's worth about a 5% discount. :D

I stayed at the Renaissance Montura Hotel a couple of weeks back. Recommend it greatly (think that it ranks highly on tripadvisor also). A good 4 star hotel, very clean, great beds. Los Angeles Luxury Hotel in Los Angeles, California: Hotel Montura
Free shuttle from the airport, altho I never used it as I had a rental car.
Cost was great at $110 a night, altho I paid $125 to include parking & wifi. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Didn't try out the buffet, so can't comment on that. Really nice.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Crowne Plaza LAX is OK with transfers from LAX. Not far to blue bus which takes you to Venice Beach and Santa Monica or Brentwood/Hollywood. Also meets your Priority Club criterion!

I always use www.priceline.com to book rooms at LAX. It always gives me at least 30-50% off the rate you would pay to Expedia, etc. I've never paid more than USD 80 all-in for a 3 or 4 star hotel there. I know it says you have to be a US resident, but you actually don't. The system works fine with your Oz credit card (just use your postcode with a preceding 0 for the zip code).

I have stayed at the Holiday Inn at LAX several times, courtesy of priceline. It's OK, but nothing special. I certainly wouldn't pay retail rates for it.

Most 2.5+ star hotels at LAX are OK, but really nothing very special IMHO.
