Late change of 737 means the perk of exit row vanishes

I regard the best perk of being WP is to be able to snag the exit rows when booking. I travel every week and am 6'3" in the old scale and very large on any scales.

I always fly 737s (MEL-ADL-MEL run) and dread the late change of aircraft which randomly relegates my prized exit row to just another Y seat.

Is it too much to tap the PB on the shoulder and ask for a swap?

It's definitely rude to ask for a swap to another pax. BUT its not rude to get Qantas to make sure your exit row seat stays an exit row seat.

Well provided the pax who is now sitting in the exit row is not one of the AFFers who responded in the F lounge thread, you'll probably survive the encounter. Still won't get you the exit row seat however.

Best thing to do would be to keep checking the seat maps and making sure no last minute change of plane catches you out.

The other thing is row 4 on the 737's is usually reserved for WP's (and special PS's which QF has taken a fancy to :D), you get pretty much the same amount of room as an exit row, without the death and distruction speech.

Same thing happened this afternoon on QF594 PER-BNE. Swapped very late from a 767-338 to a 767-336 and lost my preallocated exit row seat in the process.

Being a tall one also - I've encountered the same issue. I love my exit window seat but tend to book isle seats now just in case of that change. I also, where possible, track the incoming a/c via flight radar or something similar (need to know the gate of arrival - match it to the gate you're departing from) to confirm the a/c type. The other way is to look at your booking in the last 60-30mins leading up to departure and confirm the a/c type again. Times where it's changed and I've noticed - I've been somewhat successful is finding a seat that works.

When it's 734 to 738 swap or vv, it's beyond me why the exit rows are not just mapped over. It's a ground crew job to do this apparently, but how hard can it be? And all the pax already allocated in exit rows have been pre-screened. The "new" ones might have to be shifted out. It all makes no sense to me...

Had this today. Just tops qantas service today. Had been good over last 2-3months then they dropped the ball again today with lost bag been the major one
