Hi smarties :p

I've been invited to spend a week in LAS in May (circa 20th - 27th) and am seriously thinking about taking up the option. Being the vanilla flyer that I am, I went to the QF website to look at the dates and available flights - I'm prepared to pay the $8K or so for a return J seat but I thought there would be someone here who would have a much smarter idea than that, and would know how to maximise my points/status credits as well as advise which lounges I could use - clearly OW is the preferred option.

Happy to travel ex MEL or SYD or BNE - or even position elsewhere first.

Any advice appreciated - have I missed any salient information?

Cheers :D

I was invited ... errr rather invited myself to Vegas that same week! FYI I'm going over air pacific ... already have a MEL-xSYD-NAN in profile (from 20000 points multi city promo), then for only A$900 got a Z class (discount J) from NAN-LAX ... equivalent SC's as paying for J on QF

Have a confirmed JASA back LAX-xSYD-BNE with a points upgrade request to F

slum it over class it back

How about $6,643 on JL via NRT? Slightly restrictive Biz class (another option is the "Brand Name Undefined" for $20K...).

Note though that a layover is required. 560SCs vs 360...

If "8K or so" = $9.3K, a DCIR22 (Circle Pacific 22k mile Business) fare is an option. SYD-DFW-LAS-LAX-HKG-SYD nets 650SCs though you need to spent at least 24 hours either in Dallas, LA or Hong Kong to meet the fare rules.

Thanks for the options above - appreciated... will look into them :)

Apologies for my recommendation - I only priced up LAX and not LAS. You would need a connecting flight on AA LAX-LAS - yet more SCs!

Rock on, im in Vegas on the 20th of May too! (part of a SC run) lets have an AFF meet :)

Seems like it's the place to be - will reply back to thread with outcome - work still in progress :)

Hi everyone and thanks for your suggestions - they have been really helpful.

markis10 - thanks for the suggestion re PE for the Grand Prix sale - in the absence of other suggestions it would have been the easiest for me to take - but time to stretch myself a bit.

jamesatfish - thanks for the suggestion re the DCIR22 - if I had time to make other plans around some of the fare rules, this would be an ideal option and I'm not brilliant at the complex ones - I might be ready for that next time!

simongr - kudos to you! Who would have thought about going to LAS via NRT (well you did!) I've got a reservation in for SYD-NRT-LAX and then an AA Instant Upgrade booked for LAX-LAS-LAX before returning LAX-NRT-SYD - came in at about $7.3K all up which I'm happy with when I compare this to what I would have paid QF.

(Note: Thanks to this site I was able to educate the TA re YUP fares!)

Thanks all for your suggestions - one further question (mods please move this part to a different post if not relevant).

How easy is it to transfer between NRT and Tokyo (the TA has recommended the Mercure Ginza) on the train?

Cheers
