Hi everyone

I have a work trip to Barbados and back in June and I have a 24 hour stopover in LA, arriving about 7am and departing about the same time next day. I haven't been before and I was wondering if there were any suggestions for things to do in one day? In September hubby and I go on holiday to Disneyland/ San Diego/ Vegas before on to family in Florida, so theme parks are out for my single day in June.

I was thinking of heading to Hollywood and Vine, checking out the sights, and maybe getting one of the open top tourist bus passes to cruise around and see the different neighbourhoods.

How does that sound? Suggestions for places to visit/ restaurants in that area? Or am I way off?
Thanks :)

I would head to Santa Monica, hire a bike, ride down to Venice Beach and have a stroll around, plenty of fun people watching. Then head back and have some lunch/dinner and do some shopping on 3rd Street Promenade (heaps of good restuarants, hotels and easy to get around and not too far from airport).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not withstanding the excellent report by RooFlyer, I would head to one of the Getty museums. The Getty centre if you wanted to stay close to town so you can do some of the touristy sites or Getty Villa is you wanted to head out to Santa Monica.

And then have a late lunch or early dinner at Matsuhisa

Thanks guys... I had a look at the other thread (brilliant!) and am not quite sure now. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Although In n Out burger was defo on the list so I'm happy to see there's one by the airport :)

If you have a full day in LA, the "transit LAX" sights don't apply in my mind. You can do a hellava lot of things in a day!

Personally, I would head to Universal Studios. Its even on the overland 'metro' rail line, which you can jump on close to LAX (there's a shuttle) and get there ... in an hour or so :) http://www.la-electric-travel.com/LAX-via-Metro-Rail.html

Its a great day out - movie themed, quite sophisticated (and exciting!) rides of all sorts. I'm not a great 'movie' follower, but have been there twice and had a ball both times. You can get tickets on-line and avoid at least that queue when you arrive.

Another thing to do is to take the ferry to Santa Catalina Island. Or just hire a car and explore the coast north (as far as Hearst Castle) and the sea lions along the coast; or south (San Diego).

If you stay at the Four Points by Sheraton at LAX they will give you a 24 hour stay on the 24/24 rate from whatever time you arrive eg QF93/QF107/QF15 get in approx. 0630 so it's good to be able to checkin immediately, have a shower & a snooze then maybe take advantage of hotel shuttles to Manhattan Beach etc which may be about US$5.00 to $!0.00 each way.

You need to give the hotel at least 48 hours notice of your estimated checkin time & I believe the minimum rate on this program is USD119.00 per night.

Getty Museum is amazing if that's your sort of thing - you could spend all day there
