I have a booking in J for KUL-MEL-AKL in January 2017. I checked my booking today and I'm now flying MH KUL-AKL as it seems Emirates is pulling out of this route.

The MH product is inferior to Emirates so I was wondering what my options were. If I cancel and get a refund to book on another airline, all the cheaper fares have gone, so I will be out of pocket. I booked the flight in Feb 2016.

Can I ask to be rerouted via Hong Kong on CX?

I'll give EK a ring soon but wanted to check if anyone on the forum has any thoughts.

Do you realise that MH have upgraded the J product on their KUL-MEL/SYD A330 services to a fully flat seat in staggered 1-2-1 and 1-2-2 layout? Very similar to QF's new A330 product. I wouldn't say it's inferior to EK's angled flat 777 product in 2-3-2 configuration.

That's a very good point if the MH flight was going to MEL/SYD. But it's going to AKL.

Sorry I misread. Thought they were putting you on MH for KUL-MEL then connect to AKL. ... But of course that wouldn't connect.

In any event MH AKL services were scheduled to be upgraded by 17 Jun. Have to check seat map to see if that's happened yet. By January I expect you should be OK Last route on schedule is KUL-JED on 18 Nov.

We flew it not long ago, not the best around however as you say not inferior to the EK product, which I have always thought was average....not as many options with with new QF product which I believe is the best around.

Would they let you re-route? E.g. KUL-SIN-BNE-AKL with SIN-xBNE-AKL on EK? Or perhaps KUL-SYD-AKL on MH & QF?

I'd take KUL-AKL direct on their new seats anyday to something that has two connections .... plenty of time to sleep without interruptions ...

Have just checked the seat maps for this week, and the KUL-AKL service now has the new seats. I'd suggest rather than trying to find alternative routings, focus on trying to get the best seats, I'd recommend the bulkhead window seats as the best, so call early and try and grab them, and at the same time look at MHs Chef on Call menu and select your meal choice.

I'll have to check whether I'll still get chauffeur drive when I arrive in Auckland. I would have this if I was arriving on EK, but not sure with the transfer to MH.
