Krug, King of Champagnes

I have pretty much reserved Krug for my flights on SQ. I think we despatched only two bottles this year not associated with flights.
Never been sure why I really like Krug but I guess it must be the taste....

...why would you not drink champagne!
Well some of us do do our best - personally am also more than happy to help others out and drink their shar - but sometimes some excellent reds on offer also and I am also rather partial to a good red.

Wow, some rather insipid alternative offerings - in F as well!
Damn right and there regularly is - in late 2014 SQ went from 2012 RWT to 2012 St Hallet Blackwell Shiraz - OMG - there is just no comparison - I regularly give SQ feedback about lack of quality with some of their Australian reds - funny though I never need to criticise their Champs offerings in R, F or J.

And whilst I agree Krug is the 'King of Champagnes' on flts I am likely to take - SQ have some excellent Champs in J also - I loved the Taittinger Prelude they served previously - and Uppy adores the Taittinger Millesime they are currently serving - and I do agree - the Millesime just has something about it I find 'irresistible':

In First, BA also offers Duval-Leroy Rose Prestige Premier Cru NV.

In business,

CX - Champagne Deutz, brut classic as well as Billecart-Salman brut

JL - Delamotte Brut

QR - Brut Mosaique as well as Tattinger Prestige Rose

I don't know why I'm not enamoured with Krug. I've had it more than my fair share of times in the past 18 months (thanks CX F et al.), but I'm still not swayed into it. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice drop that I'll take over a handful of others quite handily. Maybe it's a bit too earthy, but I hear some people like that kind of character.

My go-to bubbles are still Taittinger Comtes de Champagne and Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill. The Bollinger Grande Année is also a great choice, though I think the previous vintage is better than the current one. For a mixed vintage Champagne, Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle is quite acceptable.

The JAL exclusive Salon is interesting - above the regular crowd, but not one of my go-to selections.

As many who know me will know, I consider Dom Perignon a write-off. Same with Deutz.

Perhaps I'm not quite the right person to ask at times about Champagne. I don't drink as much of it - or at least, as much of it in a single sitting - as many people here do.

Krug has a certain je ne c'est quoi about it. I just really think of it as special.
Now I am ok with Moët and Billecart for every day and Chandon as well.
I just found a DOM Perignon in the cupboard. It must hide over NYE.

It is okay anat0l, I will drink your quota of Krug, and Dom P for that matter... We mustn't let it go to waste.

Also, I actually quite enjoy the Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle (NV). Maybe I have been lucky with good crews and good catering, but all of my BA flights in First have been quite good (compared to countless bloggers, FTers and AFFers who don't seem to like BA).

I will mind it for you cove :) :) :)

I must be on the wrong flights. EK F I got Dom 2003. Luckily I hadn't read the article.

CX to DEL, DXB and BNE don't do F. I love the Billecart-Salmon on Asia flights, and miss the good old days when it was on QF J flights.:D

Don't understand why CX make us put up with Deutz on flights to SYD and BNE. The flights of shame.:(

Cheers skip

PS I have only flown 2 sectors on EK and Dom 2003 both times - nothing wrong with it at all - privileged to drink it - but would take Krug in a heart beat - but is that a 1st world prob or is that a 1st world prob.

As for the Deutz on CX I also scratch my head - to me that is the underbelly of CX ex Oz - KA serve - or did serve PH NV and TBH I think that is a step up from Deutz - but as always we all have differing tastes tastes.

Major omission in that article :
Salon served in JL

Good point!

With all due respect to Dom and Krug, the real king of champagnes in the air must be Salon.

Also, the article fails to mention QR serve Krug in their DOH lounge.

It is shameful enough CX serve Deutz in J but to serve it on 5hr flight in F and when asked if there's anything better on offer to say: "when you fly with us to Europe or USA we will serve you Krug!", well that is simply adding insult to injury.
