Hi all long time lurked first time writer here.
Have finally got my act together to act krisflyer miles as quick as possible (using Amex gold 1:1 and citi 3;2). I was looking forward to booking 2 adult and 1 infant business class flights for later in the year (j savers) however just have discovered through krisflyers online redemption infants gets charged full adult ticket! This should be 10% of an adult ticket I think.
Has anyone had experience in redeeming krisflyer points for infants? This obviously makes a difference to the amount of points I earn and it won't be worth buying a business class ticket for a baby.

That's an interesting discovery. It is specified in the Krisflyer T&Cs.

5. KrisFlyer miles must be valid when an award ticket is issued. For this reason, members should ensure that ticketing takes place before the KrisFlyer miles expire. Members must ensure that they have sufficient miles in their accounts before an award ticket is issued. A child or infant nominee requires the same number of KrisFlyer miles for travel.

Probably you just need to work through the figures. My gut feel is that for the infant you would just buy a 10% fare by itself. That option doesn't seem to be available via the website but the prices are shown as part of the Adult + Infant booking.

What is your proposed routing?

I guess the four choices would be

3 x KF J Redemption miles + $taxes

2 x J redemptions + $taxes + 1 infant tix

2 adult x Flexi Y tix + 1 x Flexi Infant (option to upgrade to J)

2 adult x Flexi Saver Y tix + 1 x Flexi Saver Infant

In thinking about it, consider the total points outlay and total cash outlay for each option.

It might also be worth forgoing the 15% online discount if the call centre can add value and flexibility to your redemption requirements.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You can book 2 frequent flyer redemptions and a paid infant ticket (10% of adult fare cost) separately. I did it last year using Krisflyer miles to fly on Air New Zealand in Business Class from Brisbane to Auckland.

Of course, it may vary between other Star Alliance members. Best to ring the airline that you're booking the ticket with.

NB, this is one minor advantage that QANTAS Frequent Flyer has. Infant bookings are free, you only pay for taxes...

Thanks for your responses.

Albatros710: looking to book from sydney to dehli for november this year.
Currently 1 Business Saver is 123,000 points per adult.

The fare for a business class seat for an infant would be appox $560 (10% of full price). Seems a bit harsh given the little guy is only using a basinet and not eating anything...
I will look into the points allocation and let you know.
ps what is a "flexi y saver" don't know much about the different types of flights on offer?

Futaris: That's good news - so it can be done.

Is the process:
1. Book 2 adult bus class tickets using Krisflyer redemption.
2. Call up travel agency - tell them flight details for booking and tell them to book a ticket for the infant? Is that right? I think an infants ticket would be appox $200 this way.

Just wondering though did you have any trouble in getting the seats allocated corrected?

Thanks for your responses

Since it's all on Singapore Airlines, I expect that you can just book the two seats online, then ring up Singapore Airlines reservations directly.

I would ring Krisflyer membership Services (on 02 9350 0203) though to reconfirm...

Just as a comparison, a AKL-BNE oneway infant ticket in Business was $80 (AUD).

And an infant ticket on QANTAS for SYD-SIN-DEL return is $422 in Economy, $1299 in Business.

As the infant is travelling in Business Class, you will need to book an infant's fare in Business Class. You can't put the infant in Economy Class, even if you wanted to (as they're too young to be an unaccompanied minor). The only way the infant can travel in Economy class is if someone sits with them there.

NB, if it's any consolation, the business class Bassinets are much bigger and better than the economy class Bassinets. Economy Class ones will only hold a baby up until they're around 8-9 months old.
