My KF account expires early in January as I haven't found the time to fly SQ in 2015. I have no miles in there worth worrying about, but I do have flights booked for April, which I had intended to credit. Alternatively I can push that to VA.

Will it be any issue if I just let this account go, and then establish a new one some time after?

I don't have any chance of flying before early January, and I don't see the point of hiring a car just to keep it open either.

I am exploring hotel bookings through Kaligo as a means of putting off the expiry, but as those bonus points aren't credited until weeks after a stay it seems kind of pointless.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You can transfer those Kris Miles to VA or pay a fee to keep the Miles alive for 6 months.
Bookings can go forward by almost a year which can leave you with technically expired Miles if you then wanted to change the flying date. SQ were nice to Mrscove by allowing her to recover technically expired Miles as a one off.
If your Miles stash goes to zero I think your account will still exist so all previous history is kept.
Status with SQ or VA has very little effect on being able to book redemption tickets with either of them. Both have pretty good availability on many of their flights but more recently SQ is tighter now than before but nothing like Qantas.

Though the OP states "no miles in there worth worrying about" and therefore may not have enough points to transfer: A minimum of 5,000 KrisFlyer miles is required for each conversion

Also for small balances the fee to keep them alive would not be worthwhile.

Would a transfer of VA miles across keep the account active? I got the same message. I fly a few times per year on SQ but have been crediting to VA to keep WP ticking along. I've got my eye on a suites redemption next year though so would happily preemptively transfer some miles across to keep my current details if it bought me another year...

The email does state - Earn miles through any of our partners before expiration of your account. For example, you can transfer your credit card reward points to KrisFlyer miles, stay at participating hotels or rent a car with Hertz/Avis to earn KrisFlyermiles.

GarrettM how many miles are involved to help with responses? I assume you mean your miles will expire and not your KF account?

Literally 1000 miles. So nothing. And yes it's the account, not miles expiry. I'm just going to let it go and then 're-register.

I found the best way to retain Kris Flyer miles was to use the Kris Flyer shopping portal to purchase items on eBay Australia.
Tried it a few months ago and my 25 KrisFlyer miles (for a $25 spend) posted about 4 weeks later and kept my account from expiring :)
