Hi
we have two small children (4 and 2) and like a bit of luxury and a nice pool area.
We are heading to KL and cannot decide between these two hotels.
thanks
Carla

Personally I like the Mandarin Oriental. It was great for close proximity of shopping, and restaurants, as well as having a great feel. I would always choose Club Access rooms, but that will depend on how you feel you children cope with being in a relatively adult space

Can children enter into the club lounges? At Westin or MO?

I am not familiar with MO properties so I can't comment. However I have stayed at the Westin KL around five times in the last couple of years. The Westin KL have both the hotel tower and the residence tower, so if you need a room large enough for a family, then consider staying in the residence wing in a 1 bedroom apartment, maybe 2 if you want to.

I usually stay in the hotel tower, but my last visit I stayed in an apartment and it was around 65sqm in size. Apart from the bedroom with a small study area, it also had a separate living area, full kitchen, another study room, large enclosed balcony with dining table.

I don't have kids so can't comment on club lounge access.

However the lobby restaurant where the main breakfast is served is really impressive. The spread is so wide and of good quality.

The pool area is very reasonable for a city hotel.

if you stay at the Westin, have dinner downstairs at "Preggios". fantastic Italian food and wonderful staff. we eat there at least 3/5 nights when in KL.

Hanks guys! Thinking whetjer to use cash plus points on spg or just pay cash. I am spg gold not sure if any upgrades are in order.

The cash rates of the Westin can be quite good value, sometimes in the order of 300-350myr (~$100-$110), so I always pay for cash than use C&P's. That said, if you have quite a few points or don't need stay credits, 2800 + $45 is also pretty good value.

I'm a SPG Platinum and have never gotten a suite there, just a nicer, higher floor room. So from a Gold perspective, probably a higher floor, ask for a view of the towers if possible.

(Platinums do get other benefits like buffet breakfast etc so they make it up there).

Thanks. A newbie question, if I used cash+points and have status e/g gold or platinum are we still entitled to an upgrade? Same for full awards?

Yes, you are entitled to full status benefits on a Cash & Points, Points, or Cash* booking

* basically any room booked on a starwood affiliated website. third party sites eg. expedia, will not give you benefits.

Thanks. I will keep this in mind. The other hotel I was considering that was a starwood property in KUL was the Le meridian but from the forums it looks like the westin is better overall.....
