Hi AFFer's,

Heading to the KL GP in March and was looking for some advice on where to stay for our duration there which will be 2 nights. Having been to KL many times in the past I normally book a club room at the Traders but due to the timings that we'll be at the track (late afternoon and arriving around 8pm) I think that we may not enjoy the full benefits.

I was looking to stay in or around the Bintang area and had a look at Park Royal Serviced Apartments which is well rated on TA. Anyone had experience staying here or have some recommendations of what would be good. Like to keep it to $150 - $200 p/n if possible. TIA.

I will be heading there for the F1 again next year as well. I stayed at the Westin last time (Mercedes team was also staying there) it is about $150/night atm, but SPG are having a up to 50% off AP hotels sale from the 12/1/15-18/1/15 http://www.apac.starwoodoffers.com/redhotdeal . Otherwise WOLO is a good option <$90/night, mate stayed there as he booked last minute & said it was nice.

Westin looks good and at 50% off I might snap it up.
Edit: nvm just saw the info on the screen.

$900 a night :O Might be a out of my price range ;)

7 days only: Enjoy up to 50% off stays in Asia Pacific.
Booking period: January 12-18, 2015.
Stay period: January 12 2015 - April 19 2015.

Yeah sale starts on the 12/1 & ends 18/1 for stays up to 19/4. I doubt they will have blackout dates, hotel prices in KL don't surge during F1 like in other cites such as Singapore. I managed to get a suite this year at 40% off during the F1.

Ill be in the Topaz stand & if you have not bought your tix the 50% off early bird prices end 31/12 (they normally extent this for another few weeks)

Thanks mate - Yeah I saw that just before so apologies. You're right about the prices though, doesn't seem to really increase during this time.

My buddy is booking the tickets today and I think we're in the Tower Stand but I believe it's not allocated seating. You recommend the Topaz?

Yeah I would highly recommend the Topaz stand tix are about $100 for the whole weekend, it is allocated seating (For MotoGP it is unallocated)- video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nawx5ei8C98 . You can work your way down to tower section anyway from the Topaz section (stands get maybe 30% full, so plenty of room to move around).
Try to get in seat block around S2-06 in front of screen, this will give you views of half the track (if you go on pit straight the pit building blocks views).

Thanks Sethor - This is really helpful.

Another vote here for the Westin - best hotel breakfast I've ever had (admittedly I haven't stayed in too many high end hotels). It was a while ago (2006) but we loved it. Staff were very helpful.

Thanks mate - Am def looking into it.

Westin KL was good and great rooms, though the buffet breakfast left a lot to be desired especially for the price!

Maybe it's changed since 2006 :) Was great when we were there - everything made fresh as you ordered it when you walked around. Nothing was too much trouble. Was a long time ago though. Our breakfast was included in the room rate so don't recall how much it was to buy it separately back then.

Doesn't look like the price changed much with this sale. Still appears to be $170 a night :/

Have a good look at SPG in KL for BRG, their yield managers often like to give third party sites like otels.com better rates making an easy BRG claim

Thanks markis10 - Direct with Starwood is about $10 per night more so should bring it in closer to the $150ish range

Equally up in KL for GP (doing my usual seats in K1 grandstand)

Have normally flipped between the Doubletree and Hilton Sentral,
but might go more central to Shangrila/Sheraton/Westin this yr.

Reportedly some of the more junior teams stay at the Times Square Hotel

Park Hyatt and Mandarin Oriental generally viewed as the real top class hotels.
But things will change over the next few years with a W, Harrods (both around KLCC) and St.Regis (at Sentral) due to open over the next few years.
