I was in Kal the last couple of days working, and was flying home with 1 colleague and 2 business associates. I hoped to be able to take the associates into the Lounge, but even I couldn't get in there myself - it was full. An attendant who was meant to be standing at Counter 1 to let guests into the club told me rudely it was full and then disappeared.. great. The door has a combination lock, so I couldn't get in. I had to wait for someone to leave so they could leave the door open for me. Then one of my associates who was the last to check in of our party was told by check in staff he may not be able to get on the flight because it was overbooked.. He ended up being able to get on, but J wasn't even full?! Must have been an error..

Wasn't the best experience I've had with Qantas to date.
With the number of SGs & WPs travelling out KGI, would be great to have a bigger lounge. Still, I guess I can't whinge too much when 500 staff are getting sacked..

There is not much there is there? I don't see where they have room to extend though.
Did you have a BP printed, as the access code is normally printed on the actual BP.

Ahhh thanks for that tip, I had never noticed that before! No, I was using NGCI. Might have to go the old-fashioned way next time. I've been in there a few times, but never bothered keeping the code.

I wouldn't go nuts about going in. Unless you just want to palm a free drink and a few nibbles.

Qantas probably never thought KGI would need a lounge to accommodate a full 737 worth of pax. Who would've thought a whole plane would be all high elites?

Does beg to wonder whether all the food and drink runs out super quickly in the club anyway.

I've been to Kal a couple of times and the lounge is usually full. Tomorrow I'm going to Karratha where, again the lounge will be full. Neither lounge is anything to write home about though. I don't really mind if I don't get in!

My tip re Kal is not to fly there LOL.

The code changes regularly, perhaps even daily. I alway get to the KGI airport early so I can get a seat. It's not a great lounge though...

Sitting in the lounge now and have noticed that it now has WIFI!!

But nothing else has changed, still the same over crowding and limited food and drinks....

:)

Yes they're limited but, like Karratha and Hedland, they're free. Saves dealing with the usual airport based rip offs.

after 14 rotations MEL-KTA I was extremely happy to see the back of that lounge, in fact I think I used it maybe just to get a beer then come back out and sit down with the civillians ;)

Yeah the Qantas club in KTA isnt anything to write home about, dark and dingy. Though good for a free water/coffee and better toilets than the public ones....other than that nothing. Rumour had it Virgin wants to open a lounge in KTA to "assist with attracting and maintaining contracts" so that could be interesting but believe that when I see it!

In Karrathas case it's pretty shocking, most days 12 flights a day to Perth and then the Air North flights 3x weekly and the 4x Eastern States flights a week. Theres more than enough demand to have a 100-150 seat lounge as majority of flyers are gold and most people who live here get QF Club cheap through companys anyway theres potential with a Terminal Upgrade coming in the next few years to see a decent "Regional" lounge put in.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Are they not making KTA an inetrnational airport, remember back in 09 there was talk of it, something about making KTA a 50000 popolus city of the future ?
