Hi - I just made platinum with VA. Obviously there are the standard issue benefits, has anyone had any benefits outside of this such as random upgrades or bottles of wine in the mail...

Congratulations on achieving Plat. I have not received random upgrades, or more importantly, bottles of wine in the mail. YMMV.

Bottles on Wine... You must be thinking of the other airline - What's it called again? *shrugs*

Enjoy Row 3 seat selection & the comp. upgrade vouchers! :)

Bwhahahahahahaha

I did get a pack of playing cards when I activated my HHonors Diamond status but I had to fight for the status to be given - what VA promises and what you get are two different things some times.

And congrats!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

such as....bottles of wine in the mail...

 I'm trying to work out if you're naive or a comedian! ;)

I can't even get them to send me emails through the ether, let alone bottles of wine in the mail!

BTW......welcome to plat, but if you take my row 3C seat, there'll be strife!

That goes for 3D as well!

I also like my 3C.....3A in a pinch......

I do share! Probably not the right thread, but I jump around a bit.
If I fly south in the early morning, I'll opt for 3D (or 3F if there's anything in the flight path I may wish to see).
If I fly north in the early morning, I'll opt for 3C (or 3A if there's anything in the flight path I may wish to see).
If I fly south in the late afternoon, I'll opt for 3C (or 3A if there's anything in the flight path I may wish to see).

Other times of the day (or east west), I just prefer 3C.

Too much time in the air do you think? Sounds a bit loopy but it's mainly to reduce the chance of sun annoying me.

and I thought i over thunk things :)

but I also have my favorite spot at the VA syd lounge....that I use every time.....without fail.....

strange??? no........

My big row 3 pet peeve of late is the total lack of baggage storage. If I'm in Row 3, and not one of the first to board, I completely miss out on overhead storage and have to hike up to row 8 (actually, it's more of an awkward shuffle). This essentially counters the value of sitting up front – first off the plane. I waited a good 15 minutes for everyone between 3-8 to get their stuff together before I could grab my bag.

It's a small thing, but honestly I'm not sure the row 3 thing is worth it. Plus, I don't think I've ever had a shadow up front.

Really, it just makes me crave J even on a 60 minute flight.

Fly ahead = great.
100% points bonus = great.
3 lounge guests = great.

Otherwise ZERO recognition from crew. You may as well be on your first Y flight ever. Sometimes I struggle to even get a smile from the crew.

.

The VA staff routinely jam their bags in J/over row 3 which really really gets to me, it means J pax have to move their bags back over Y and creates a cascading effect.
