JQ Sin-Mel flight cancelled. Reroute with QF possible ?

As title. QF runs direct SIN-MEL same day. JQ flight cancelled but QF flight available same day
JQ want me to fly one day earlier or later or refund.

In this situation, has anyone here been able to succesfully argue with JQ that "sure I will fly the day earlier, but the hotel room will cost $XX ? Or has the approach always been that JQ will only offer 1 day earlier/later or a refund, and won't entertain any other customer provided options at all?

IMHO No
JQ is nothing to do with QF (when it wants to be)
What is the fare on QF or any other airline?

yeah they wont do anything for you other than date change or refund

I've been put on QF when JQ has cancelled before, but only for domestic routings. So it's probably worth asking.

a cancellation at the airport on the day is handled differently to a cancellation or date change in advance.

Hmm it was about 36 hours in advance, got the SMS saying check your email and call if options presented were not suitable. They weren't, so I called .... maybe I just lucked out?

that's quite short notice, if it is a few weeks or months in advance IME they won't offer any other alternative

Happened to me 10 days ago, JQ4 SYD-MEL cancelled 24 hours out (this is one of the INT terminal departures).

First offer was a much earlier JQ domestic (said could not get there that early).....
lots of umming and ahhhing, said there was an another option but I would have to head to the airport.

i explained I was not going to go to international terminal, just to be sent to DOM terminal.

After a bit of tapping on keyboard I was on a 6.30pm QF domestic flight.

Turns out a large block of JQ PAX were transferred to this flight.

asking for a refund might help, assuming you have another option (eg award flight)

Asking for a refund might be the go, depends if you plan to go back, at present the QF fares ex Singapore are good value for nesting.
