Re: Join Virgin Flying Club: Instant Gold (and get 5,000 bonus miles for Upper Class

" The only condition is you must be an existing ‘elite’ status member of another frequent flyer programme and you must book a Virgin Atlantic Upper Class flight (J,D or R booking classes) between 1 March and 31 April 2010 for outbound travel until 31 May 2010. "
Does the 31st April exist? ;)

Seriously, UK Citizen aside, there would not have been too many people who applied for VS Flying Club membership under this promotion prepared to book and take a VS Upper Class flight before end of May and already have elite membership in another FF program.

I believe people would have read "Join Virgin Flying Club and get Instant Gold" without bothering to read the terms and conditions.

And because of this promotion VS have increased their database by many thousands at no cost to them and the marketing dept will be rubbing their hands together as they have all these frequent flyers to email promo's to now.

Unless of course you simply opt-out/unsubscribe at the bottom of the first email. :p

Bingo! And the fun part is you can only join once so that excludes you from future promotions to join the FF program.

Re: Join Virgin Flying Club: Instant Gold (and get 5,000 bonus miles for Upper Class

Some update on this, my wife has an AMEX MR card so she tipped some points into VS account, about 3 weeks ago. She got the personalised Gold pack today from VS. No VS flight was flown, and it is sent to Australia from UK. The Gold card has expiry date of May 2011 which is great for lounge access on DJ and SQ (as well as VS of course).

The kit comes with personalised welcome letter contains :
Gold Card (expires 05/2011)
2 Gold Luggage Tags
5 upgrade certs on each Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express trains

I do not have AMEX so I cannot do any financial transactions at all, so I may ended up becoming RED again, if my credit of flight on NH does not come though, or unless I do a mini DJ run somewhere ......

Re: Join Virgin Flying Club: Instant Gold (and get 5,000 bonus miles for Upper Class

Another update from me on this, and it looks like despite not meeting the hard terms and conditions, the system has issued my Gold pack today after points credited from DJ today (took 4wks for points to credit).

So, at the very least if someone happens to be using the Heathrow or Gatwick Express I may have some upgrade vouchers free to use.

Do enjoy the benefits - you may consider a trip to/from LHR some time on VS no less so you can try the VSCH. It is as good as it sounds, but like all good things it is best you find out for yourself.

If you're going to blow a pretty quid on the HEX, might as well do it in style (even though the ride is only 15 minutes - hardly enough time to soak up the spacious cabin and get fired up on the wireless internet).

Re: Join Virgin Flying Club: Instant Gold (and get 5,000 bonus miles for Upper Class

I finally got my Gold pack as well from VS after a retroactive mileage claim came through. Now I wonder whether I can get status match to another airline, preferable OW or *A?

It looks like that VS won't downgrade the account to Red after all.

Yes, I also have two Heathrow and two Gatwick Express free upgrade card available for anyone who asked. One set expires May 2011, and the other set is June 2011.

Might not have much luck, but hey, can always try.

BD is the classic target. Never sure how successful you may be (most people are, but haven't heard of matches from VS), especially since Diamond Club is progressively being moved to Miles & More.

I'd almost harbour that BA would be a good target to try, but being a resident of Australia will not be any help.

Of course, don't try QF. That's a no-brainer "it won't work".

Yep. Just got both myself (BD Silver) and better half (BD Blue) status matched to Gold. It may have helped that I have been putting miles into BD for a while, and that I was already Silver. But either way I've got myself first ever *G, and hopefully with merger with M&M Gold status will be extended.

Congratulations.

Your BD*G will probably be continued as LH SEN when the M&M integration happens, however how long your LH SEN (and mine) will last is a whole different affair. Retaining LH SEN is also heaps more difficult than retaining BD*G.

You should check your BD anniversary date. If you don't requalify according to when your anniversary date says you would, you will probably drop to BD*S and during M&M integration end up as a LH FTL rather than a SEN. Your BD anniversary date does not necessarily reset to be the date you got matched to *G - it may well be just your old (*S) date.
