Hi All

I've got some flights on separate PNRs next week and am wondering if I can check by bags through to my final destination. The flights are:

PNR #1
12 July QF71 PER-SIN (Economy)
12 July QF4212 (operated by 3K) SIN-BKK (Economy)

6 hour layover in BKK

PNR #2
13 July QR837 BKK-DOH (Business)
13 July QR275 DOH-AMS (Business)

Looking at the 3K website it seems to indicate that they won't interline to QR unless it's on the same PNR, so I'd need to clear immigration and check-in again in BKK. However does that matter if my first flight is QF operated? Would it help if I applied for a points upgrade to business on QF71?

Previous posts regarding this appear to indicate the policy is a bit hit-and-miss, depending on who is on check-in at the point of origin (i.e. PER). I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter.

Thanks!

I have flown:

QF SYD - SIN
3K SIN - CGK

and vv.

Checking in at SYD, I was told that they could not check my luggage through to CGK and that I would have to collect and re-check in SIN. When I reached SIN, the transfer desk was able to re-route my luggage (successfully) without collecting and re-checking.

Checking in at CGK for return trip, checking through was no problem at all.

I suspect you will have to re-check in BKK, but maybe only have to see the transfer desk at SIN. I was on a single ticket but not with QF flight numbers for the 3K flights.

Good luck!

Thanks! It does sound very hit-and-miss. I'll check with the staff in PER (and SIN if necessary)...fingers crossed! I don't mind collecting bags and checking in again, especially with a six hour layover, but I'd like to stay airside if given the option - otherwise I've got three hours or so to kill in the check-in area waiting for QR check-in to open.

I would turn up to check in with both itineraries and ask if they can check your bags through to AMS as your connecting flights are on QR - being a member of One World.

If I was a betting person I'd say it would be okay.

I tried a similar route about 18 months ago, and had to collect my bags in BKK with a 6 hour lay over... I have to spend 3 hours landside in the end and it wasn't a lot of fun. There was a 'lounge' that you can pay to have access too, but it was really just a big room, with a few couches, and prepackaged average sandwichs. Did have power and wifi, which was all I really wanted anyway.

Good luck!

What was your similar route to be exact?

Qatar Airways only joined One World in Oct 2013 so if you had QR flights prior to this date in a separate pnr you wouldn't have been able to through check your bags at that stage.

My mistake it was actually EK in May 2014, I flew MEL-SIN (QF)-BKK (JQ)-DXB-FRA (EK), so not oneworld, but they did have a relationship with QF then.

So all might be good....

The agreement with EK allows QF to add in oncarriage for separate pnrs as they do for One World member airlines.

Was the JQ flight SIN/BKK in a separate pnr to the QF flight MEL/SIN? If not they wouldn't through check bags to JQ and therefore not be able to add in the EK oncarriage thereafter.

If the JQ flight (whether booked as JQ or a QF codeshare flight SIN/BKK) was in the same pnr then I see no reason why the EK flights could not be added after that as long as it wasn't a really long transit time.

Thanks for all your thoughts.

Just checked in and got the bag through to Amsterdam. I'll need to pick up the QR boarding passes at Bangkok but that shouldn't be a problem.

The lady at the check in counter couldn't have been more helpful. Great start to my trip -well done Qantas!
