Jetstar Domestic Perth - Early Check-in?

A few friends and I are flying PER to KIX in December.

- My partner and I are flying QF/JQ J, PER-SYD-CNS-KIX. Our flight departs 23:05.
- My other friends are flying JQ Y, PER-CNS-KIX. Their flight departs 01:10 (+1)

Since my partner and I have QF J Lounge access, we would like to guest in our friends on the later JQ flight. However their flight leaves a lot later than ours, thus their check-in would be open later (around 23:10, which is after we depart!).

I'm wondering if they can check-in their luggage PER-CNS while the JQ counters are open for an earlier flight in the evening (i.e. PER-SYD departing 22:55, check-in opens 20:55), then head up and hang out in the lounge until we depart/it closes? Alternatively, are there self bag-drop facilities available? I haven't been to T3 before.

I'm not sure about PER, but I have been unable to do this when flying Jetstar domestic out of SYD in the past.

You could always ask, but my suggestion would be for your friends to store their luggage at the airport for a few hours (see here). Then they can head to the lounge with you. When your flight leaves they can exit the airside area, pick up their luggage and check-in with Jetstar.

Similar but different question.

I recall reading, or maybe it was a discussion with another AFFer at some point (or I may have even done it....) that it is possible to check into a J* international flight early by using check in counters that are open for another flight.

I am looking at booking JQ57, but the connecting flight options available to me arrive into MEL at either 1.5 hours, or 5 hours before JQ57's scheduled departure. I would be taking a family member who has never, and will likely never again get to experience an F Lounge. No point stuffing around with the international departure for only 30 minutes in the lounge.

JQ7 departs almost 3 hours before JQ57, so the Int. check in counter would be open, we will have checked luggage.

While potentially troublesome with checked luggage, we could wait in the domestic J-lounge, check in when it opens, and get 1.75 to 2 hours which would be fine - but I would like to know my options.

IME I have been checked in slightly early by JQi at T2 in MEL, in a similar circumstance (where another earlier departing flight had the counters staffed). They had to "open the flight" in the system first though, and made clear they were only doing it as a one off (no one else was waiting for the departing flight to check in, so presumably they may as well clear me to reduce their workload for the next flight) and also because I had no checked bags.

They said if they sent a checked bag through, for the later flight, it would likely disappear... I imagine that Jetstar has very precise baggage handling contracts with its agents. And no one gets paid a single cent for handling a bag until the T-3 hour mark (for any particular flight): so if no baggage handler is getting paid to deal with your bag, once it disappears off down the conveyor belt, chances are it wouldn't turn up when you land.

(Tip: There is a baggage storage service in the arrivals area downstairs at T2 though, which you can use while you wait in the domestic facilities for JQi check in to open.)

Do on line check in and that will make it even easier for them to basically tick and flick you through the process. Bring the print out along so it is all in front of them and they can do a quick check and print off your BP.

Of course HLO makes it even easier as discussed previously.
