Just for a few data points ....
I was booked on JQ926 BNE-CNS a couple weeks ago, due to depart at 0610. At 0313 (according to my phone - I didn't get the message until I woke up at 5!) I got an SMS advising it was cancelled. SMS said to check email for options. There was no email. Logged onto the JQ site, and it showed the 3 later flights that day as alternates. However, when selected it stated that points/seat allocations were not available! Screw that! I want my points dammit!
Called them up, answered immediately. They very quickly offered the 0700 QF798 flight which I gratefully accepted. Got to the airport, no problems with QF checkin; they even gave us exit row seats.
Points posted automatically; turns out they put me on as a full Y and I got 30SC instead of the expected 15
Mr k_sheep had to do a points claim, and only got the 15.
So lessons learned:
1/ If your flight is cancelled, call, and you may get bumped to QF.
2/ Make sure you provide your QFF card or number at checkin, may get double SC
Sadly our flight home wasn't cancelled, but at least we had a row of 3 to ourselves. And a few tipples in the QP beforehand to make it more bearable.
