I flew Jetstar last year to Honolulu, and was offered an upgrade to business for around $250. Does Jetstar still offer this, and how long before the flight do the offers get sent out. I can't remember the timeline.

Welcome to AFF :)

Jetstar does still do this sometimes, but not for every flight. If upgrades are offered, you'll usually receive an email around 14 days before the flight.

Thank you. We are within that time frame, and there are plenty of business seats left.
Can we email a request?

If they haven't offered you an upgrade, you may be out of luck. Perhaps log in to manage your booking online and see if there's an option there?

If you do wish to upgrade, and one is not offered, you'll probably need to pay the fare difference between your ticket and a business class fare.

In any case, be aware that Jetstar do not offer upgrades at the airport at all - so you would need to confirm it before you check in.

Flew Brisbane to Bali late November 2016. My mother was travelling with us and had booked business. We were exit row in economy. A few days before we left my mother was checking seats in business and there about 7 seats still available. Did not get any email offering an upgrade. As we were travelling as a family we could all check in at the business class counter.

I asked the agent if there were any paid upgrades available to business and was told no but next time if you come out to the Jetstar service desk at the airport the day before and there are business seats available you can do a paid upgrade. From memory was around $250.

Glad I did not waste my money. Jetstar business is absolute cough!

Interesting to know that you can do this.

I agree with your opinion of Jetstar business class though. Last year I flew JQ J from DPS-SYD and it was awful. The on-board service was actually alright, but the hard product was terrible. And of course no lounge access without the Max bundle (even with QF status). A couple of weeks later I flew HKG-SYD on QF in Y (exit row) - also an overnight flight but I slept much better and actually preferred it to JQ J!

Re: Jetstar business upgrade

have seen previously upgrades being offered only on fares that included the plus package (we had 1 fare with and 1 without), not sure if this is across the board

I have seen upgrades offered on Starter fares, so don't think it's a hard and fast rule.

I haven't flown with them since the A330's left the fleet. That was a much better J product. Whoever signed off on that as star class should have got sacked. Its a once tried never repeated experience, well for me anyway.

Have previously posted my experience in business on the flight back from Bali. Booked business as it was an overnight flight back. Total waste of money. JQ should be prosecuted for false and misleading conduct for calling it business class. Not even the equivalent of premium economy on a full service carrier.

On my flight (and I've read a couple other reports the same) - the upgrade offer seemingly went out exactly 14 days prior to departure. The cabin went for 4/21 to 21/21 within a couple hours.

Unlike others I actually find JQ business ok... I think it's pretty much the same as QF PEY/QF domestic business, except they serve champagne. The food has deteriorated slightly however. The staff are excellent. Seat... yeah, well... better than coach.

I was at BNE 2 weeks ago waiting near the customer service desk and I overheard a fellow upgrade BNE-DPS for $250. Obviously I don't know what fare class he was on, but cash upgrades at the airport do seem possible, so worth asking if you're interested.

Interesting. Do you know if the passenger was travelling that same day? I've been told categorically on several occasions that this is not possible to do on the day of travel.

He was carrying a surfboard, so I imagine so, but I can't say for sure.

My experience about 12mths ago on SYD-HNL on a Y Plus fare was exactly 2 wks out of got the email offer, and j think it was $300 for 'Business' or $400 for Max (Inc SCs).

For a day flight it's a great product and the soft product is much better than Scoot and AirAsiaX's equivalent food/wine/IFE. For night flights AirAsiaX obviously has the better seat with its angled flat bed.

No point comparing to a full service carrier Business. The product (and price) are in a very different league

Used to be! Prices for premium cabins have been quite expensive recently. Certainly for BKK/HKT it's cheaper to book full business class on TG through lifemiles. During a sale the gap narrows, LM being a couple hundred dollars more.

Ex Asia - Air Asia flat beds are often more expensive than full revenue business class on VN or MH. In April, ex Japan, Air China was offering full business class for AUD900 one way, hundreds of dollars cheaper than JQ.

There are some bargains to be had, but I think it is actually becoming a situation where you can compare premium cabin on LCCs with full service.
