Hoping someone informed can shed a light on my recent Jetstar booking failure - as no-one at JetStar (including multiple supervisor level escalations) could answer my question.

I booked HNL/SYD on-line; I've done this sector on Jetstar a couple of times as it avoids overnight flights back from the US and has a decent SC earn when I can't justify business class on a real airline! Clicked on the "Business Max" bundle to get my QFF SCs, which the Web site said was added, but realised after paying that the Business Max bundle had not been added. Confirmed with JetStar it's a system glitch (Web said it was added, but it wasn't). Rang the Call Centre and was informed that "no Business Max value is available". Eventually - after six calls - got a full refund. (Am not flying 10+ hours on JetStar without earning any points - can't think of much worse than this!)

Could not get a response as to:
1) is the Business Max bundle in fact a different fare class, hence no availability (or has it been withdrawn from some segments) and
2) why is there is no mechanism to request that a Business Max bundle (or Business Max fare class) be released?
Seems odd that Jetstar would rather refund my fare when the cabin seemed to be about 2/3 full. I offered to pay for the Business Max bundle, even through (based on my screenshot of the Web site) I could have argued that I was entitled to this based on what I had booked.

Probably another reminder that I should just avoid JetStar and IKEA to preserve my sanity :)

Afterthought: Suggestions welcome on best alternative to get back from HNL to SYD in Y. Am Velocity Platinum and QFF Platinum.

I have a booking HNL-SYD for a flight in a couple of months time. No problem getting Business Max for that.

I tried to book on 10 May (HNL/SYD)... doesn't let you book Business Max. HNK/MEL on same day has Business Max available...

What about HA...2 x 32 kilo bags plus hand luggage - I have flown this sector its not great but OK if you can get the right price

Thanks - I'm going to have a look tonight. I don't think I've ever travelled HA except between islands... I travel pretty light. Ability to get an exit row seat (or enough space to work!) is the main priority. And QFF or VA SCs!

Wait... it gets better... if I book HNL/MEL via SYD, JetStar offers me the Max Bundle. So if I book HNL/SYD flight I can't get the Max Bundle, BUT if I go HNL/SYD/MEL I can. Anyone see any issues checking bags through to Sydney only?
Would love to understand the yield management logic behind this.

If the SYD-MEL flight leaves from the domestic terminal you have to collect them anyway and take them through Customs.

If you were unable to get to the SYD-MEL flight well you would probably not be able to fly it. ;)

Thanks - I wasn't sure if the bags would be checked through to final destination, ever though the terminals are separate. Sounds like a plan.

The bags would probably be checked through as would you but..

However, it would be courteous to let them know once you've disembarked, cleared Customs etc that you are unable to travel due to a family emergency which has just arisen.

But what?

Family emergency = need to earn SC's and points. ...... That's certainly emergency enough for me
