Jetstar announces massive Darwin expansion from 2009

Jetstar boss Alan Joyce cites Kota Kinabalu as one example but believes a "massive range" of Asian destinations can be reached this way. Everything within about six hours' flying of Darwin (about 4600 kilometres) is on the agenda, he says.

Simon Westaway, said yesterday (27 Nov) the airline had been in talks with Canberra Airport on whether to fly to the national capital.

"Any decision for a change in the existing operations will be subject to a broader Qantas group decision.
"But, yes, the market is of interest to us and as we obtain more aircraft from mid-2008, we are yet to allocate markets and that will come into the mix of existing destinations."
