Hi Folks

We are looking to travel JQ Gold Coast to Japan in June ( 2 adults, plus 3 kids 10,14 &16) and am looking for information on the cost of the Jetstar addons (meals etc). I can't find any detail on the website. It's good to know all the options before getting caught in the booking engine with all it's timeouts and other issues.

I rang the call centre and after getting stuck in a loop on their Telephone menu system, eventually got through to a real person. Sounds like it is offshore somewhere. The young man was trying very hard to answer my questions, but it seemed pretty obvious he was just looking up some sort of sales manual that didn't have a lot of detail.

So, I'll turn it over to you guys!

What is the cost of the pre-paid meals of the OOL-NRT sector and how many do you get? CSR said $28 prepaid per sector but couldn't tell me how many meals you get for that (one or two?).

Cost of Video-on demand? CSR said $12 pre-paid per sector.

Cost of Comfort pack? CSR said $7 pre-paid per sector.

We're not really interested in the VOD (the kids are getting a holiday, so they can read a book or watch the shared screens) or Comfort pack, but there is a 'JETPLUS' package for $60 per sector that give 20kg luggage, two meals, VOD and comfort pack. If we are going to buy the luggage allowance and meals, it might be worth getting the package to keep the kids occupied.

Of course, we could load up on snack foods (but that is a bit more difficult on the NRT-OOL sector), or buy food onboard.

Thanks, as always, in advance!!

Welcome to AFF!

The simplest solution would be to just do a dummy booking yourself and see what you get… note it all down, and then do the actual booking on the next go. That’s what I did to find your options.

To start with, there are JetSaver Light, JetSaver and JetPlus fares. The JetPlus fares come with 2 meal and beverage packs, personal video on demand unit, a comfort pack and 20 kilos of checked baggage, all for just $60 more per person over a JetSaver fare. You can choose this option before you even get down to all the other choices.

JetPlus - Jetstar Airways

Now, if you didn’t upgrade, I would like to tell you all the options, but due to a certain sale, I can never get past the passenger details screen. If you’re booking a sale fare, good luck, if not, can you wait a few days so the website will actually be usable? ;)

Have done this flight quite a bit (sister lives in Osaka) so thought i'd chuck in my 2c

Jet plus - i don't see the value personally (as i bring my own 'comfort pack').

Meals - Meals and unlimited beverages / soft drinks OOL-NRT/KIX is decent value but KIX/NRT-OOL is rather poor given the flight leaves after dinner and arrives before breakfast (and the provided food compared to the OOL-NRT/KIX flight is rather 'lacking & poor value' in my mind)

VOD - not bad value for the outbound OOL flight but again given the return time you'll probably end up sleeping or watching overhead movies (and have probably watched everything of interest on the way over).

If you can afford it the exit row seating is a worthwhile option, best ~50 you'll spend (i save on the above and always book exit row if avail).

I notice JQ are currently running 2 for 1 specials OOL KIX/NRT which works out at $450 person + luggage - not bad value (best i have seen is $360 return - carry on etc).

Hope this helps.

My wife and have travelled on two O/S trips on Jetstar.

We now have a headphone splitter which goes into the portable dvd player and we both put our headphones into it. Now we only have to rent one dvd player.

Never bought food on board, didn't look that good, you are allowed to bring your own of you want to save money.

On the trip back from coughet the man along from us had three sandwiches wrapped in gladwrap and a six pack of VB. Kept him happy all trip. {Ps I know you are not allowed top bring your own alcohol on board but no one said anything to him.

JQ have removed the unlimited beverages, now it is just the 1 hot/cold beverage per meal...

Bummer... there goes the value of pre paying then.

Was a good deal while it lasted I guess
