Jet lag: is cough the answer?

Book flights that arrive in the morning or afternoon. For example, take the 5 pm flight to London. You'll be through customs by 8.30 am. With morning arrivals allow yourself a nap in the afternoon, but never more than two hours. Flying to New York? Leave at midday, arrive at 4:50 pm. You'll make it in time for a Broadway show — but make sure it will keep you awake: Rent should do the trick. Whatever you do, don't crawl in bed before 10 pm.
What is wrong with arriving at the destination between 9pm-midnight? I find this works best for me and I am up early in the morning without the side effects of jetlag. Early morning arrivals are the worst but unfortunately most flights are scheduled to arrive back in Australia in the morning.

cough, even if it does cure jetlag, is not the type of medication I would take unless it was absolutely necessary....

With you on this one. Flew back from Europe earlier in the year arrived back at 8pm, home around 9. Stayed up until about 10:30pm and went to bed - I was fine the next day. Much better than arriving home at 6am and trying to stay up all day.

An interesting article found on NineMSN, which discusses various ways of combating Jet lag. Especially interesting are the comments alongside the article.

I think that cough is the answer to many questions, such as "What can I take so I've got somewhere to hang my towel", but to cure jetlag?

I'll give it a go on my next flight.

On second thoughts, I'd better not as I'm flying on my own.

Then again, that may be the best time to try it!

AU-SIN, arrive around 9pm.... perfect time to get to hotel, check in, go out have a few drinks... depending on where you may or may not choose to use the cough jet lag cure :D
Then finally to bed and ready for the next day.

I do however think really the best time to arrive is early evening so you can sleep (because i am always tired after a flight no matter how long or how much sleep i have) then you seem to wake up best the next day.
Worst is a shorter night flight arriving early morning and trying to stay awake all day ! too hard.

SIN to MEL, 9pm-ish departure??? yep agree.

Oh, and to take a leaf out lovetravellingoz's book, the last past especially if you use the cough as the jetlag cure.

Mods, better close this thread before the humour denigrates even further

I don't actually get much jetlag. Sometimes I feel a bit spaced out due to fatigue from not having slept properly the night before (due to having stayed up to pack, or having partied the night away), but some bubbles onboard and a kip usually cures that. When I land I overseas I'd be too excited to sleep and would want to get up to do things; conversely coming home I'd just vege out on my couch or go out to do stuff with mates and chill out till it's bedtime to avoid screwing up my sleep patterns.

I've always preferred to land at any time other than early morning, for the simple reason that I just want to get into my hotel room for a shower and arriving early morning doesn't guarantee that, unless there are arrivals lounges.

Arriving home I don't really care if it's day or night.

I also prefer day time flights so that I can experience the service. And your seat mate is also likely to be awake so there can be interesting convos to be had. Night time flights feel like a waste of an experience because you'd spend half of it asleep. And it feels lonely being the only person awake when everyone else is asleep. Though it also means you can have all the booze you want to yourself when you wake up thirsty in the middle of the night. :D

Though maybe if you tried the cough remedy, that last part would not be a problem ;)

Don't you just love it when the stranger sitting next to you can't stop talking. :-|

My thoughts exactly....
