Can anyone advise if they have experienced JAL PE?

I have a trip to Europe in Jan and want to use a OW Airline and I am considering all options.

Also, one of the biggest head aches seems to be getting prices for any travel on a JAL flight. How can you get a price on line for JAL flights? Every time I check the cost usually ends up showing around 1 Billion dollars for a flight to anywhere!

I have checked BA and Qantas PE however the cheapest price I can get is AUD5,000.00.

If anyone knows of a cheaper alternative I would be interested to know.

Many thanks.

I know i'm the travel guru so I shouldn't be asking this question, but when did JAL start offering a Y+ option??

As far as why you can't find decent prices online, it's got a lot to do with the fact they still deal in net fares rather than gross, and don't have a big presence online, they still put the majority through agents.

Hi Guru,

I understand from on line research that it was around end 2007.

The PE product on the JAL website is promoted via video.

There must be a way of getting better deals on line?

I have always used a TA or Zuji to book JL flights.... no good on-line options except the online TA's.

The problem you're going to have with JL Y+ is that it's not offered from AU, infact i can't even locate any fare sheets for it.

I think if you want Y+ and OW look at QF.

Thanks for your feedback.

So you think there will be no cheaper PE other than the 5K price on offer?

Not withstanding any specials, I know recently Virgin Atlantic had some specials and when I broke it up into 2 fares (ie SYD-HKG-SYD and HKG-LHR-HKG) it came in around 3800, though at the moment the cheapest is $4400.

Having said that, for OW 5k seems the norm for Y+.

The JAL Y+ isn't offered from what I can see as an add on with their economy fares and isn't offer ex Sydney, so can't see alot of point looking at it.

If you are seriously looking at $5K for a Y+ flight to Europe, I'd be considering other options in the mix as well, such as cheaper business class options on other airlines (Asiana often have fares around the $5-$6K mark in business class), or mixed class fares (Y to Asia, J from Asia to Europe) - AirFrance, Swiss etc often have these types of fares available. Whilst Y+ is nice, I'm sure J would be nicer on those longer sectors...

Given your preference for OW, maybe Y to BKK and then catch J from BKK to Europe on Finnair?
