JAL goes for space and comfort even in Y

Looks good but I think it's not going to look like that in reality? Photos always make the seats feel spacious.

The article was referring to the newer 787-9... the 787-8 has been in service for several years already with JAL and the 2-4-2 seating and yes, it looks like the picture, and has received outstanding reviews from passengers.

The product QF should have in W and Y in their 787s for ULR

42" inch W and 33" y pitch with >18.5" width

I've just booked my first PE trip to the US with JL. I think I will start flying JL in Y to the US too, I'll give it it a try to ORD when they start MEL-NRT in the coming months.

I've been trying to maximise SC for the past 7 years, but now that QF LTG is only a few months away I feel free to try other airlines and only aim for 1200 SC/year instead of the 3075 SC I will earn this year...

I've flown JL's 787-8 with 2-4-2 seating in Y and definitely agree. One of the most comfortable Y configurations I've ever flown in and I would even pay a little extra for it.

It's really frustrating that Qantas is going for a squishy 3-3-3 on their 787s which are doing 17.5 hour non-stop flights. Qantas says that 3-3-3 is industry standard, but a 17.5 hour flight sure is not!

Ah - but QF's 787 is *revolutionary*. You pay extra for that!

I just booked another PE trip on JL from MEL. JL has a fare to any US and Canadian destination for ~AUD3300 all taxes and fees included (the fare is ENN0NOCE). This is cheaper than CX and usually cheaper than QF PE fares.
Routing can be via SYD on QF to connect to JL or directly from MEL and include connecting AA flights to any North American city from JL destinations (ORD, BOS, SAN, YVR, DFW, LAX, SFO)
Stopovers are allowed in Japan and at US/Canada transit point.

It surprises me that JAL does not win more airline awards.

Either it refuses to pay companies such as Skytrax sufficient money, or insufficient spread (as in 'of nationalities') of travellers fly it.

It seems to be an airline that puts passenger comfort a close second after safety, not a distant second as many others do.

Completely agree. JAL is one of the best airlines out there and they don't get enough for their investments.
