Hi everyone, long time no post...

I am travelling to Japan on J award fares and couldn't find thru fares from HND to CTS.

Last time i remember reading (and booking) the special fares you could book for J seats on that sector. Is it still a thing and can anyone link me to the fares. I also know there was specific advance purchase window to achieve the lowest fare.

Any help on my memory recall would be helpful. Thanks

I've never heard of J class special fares but JAL still has the cheaper tickets for tourists on offer:
Kind of a hit or miss. Sometimes its there, sometimes its not. Probably just classed as a certain type of discount fare that is in a bucket with others and when they all sell out prices go up.

To be honest I'd use those same terms to sum up JAL domestic.

In the last few months I've flown both JAL (as a QF Plat so OWE) and ANA (as an Air NZ Gold so *G).

ANA during mobile check in the boarding pass updated with Group 2 and *G (ANA's own Diamonds are Group 1), at the airport there was clear *G signs for the premium check in/security and also at the lounge/gate once again clear announcements/signs for *G. Onboard ANA is very consistent on what they offer and this is clearly outlined on their website (although the pre pandemic sales of beer haven't returned) and annoucnments including safety demo done in both Japanese and shorter version in English.

JAL on the other hand, the mobile boarding pass never showed my OWE status, it was unclear where to go a ITM for check in/security (ended up using a channel that was more meant for OWS, the first sign my status was recognised was on the security receipt where it said Zone 1 (but again no mention to OWE or QF status). Once through security I went up to the JAL lounges, it was self service scan of boarding pass where it said "enter diamond premier lounge" on the screen. The very first actual sign of oneworld status was at boarding - when I arrived at the gate it had Zones 1/2 on the screen I used the self service boarding lane and the screen flashed up with an OWE symbol and that was it. Onboard they did offer a drinks service with a laminated card of choices but I think the most telling thing was that the only announcement made in english the entire flight was "please pay attention to our safety demo".

I def read about it on here, people would book the J sector for status runs on the cheap. I want the baggage allowance! 🤣

JL J fares aren't too expensive, but they earn funny with QF. JL F is where i think it equates to QF J for SC.

Are you going up to Hokkaido for long? If so, you can consider mailing your main suitcase separately to your hotel directly - or to your next hotel point after Hokkaido. Depending on when you go, dragging suitcases through snow is not fun.

Yep going skiing in March. Will send suitcases back on the return journey and only take carry on for downtown Tokyo.
