Booked a family trip to London for Xmas courtesy of QF's recent sale. Upside was the price, downside was no A380... We get a QF A330 to HKK, and a BA 777 to LHR.

Pretty much know what I'm getting on QF, but just wondering if anyone's done J on BA lately. The seating and cabin looks 'interesting' (fully flat beds, half rear-facing... Looks a bit like aseries of flying office cubicles...

Thanks,
fp

If you score the new 777-300ER you will enjoy the experience greatly. I prefer BA's J on the 777 -200 or -300) to their 744. It's not he QF A380 but you're still sitting in the right part of the plane!

I'll preface my post by saying its way better than whY but:
I am really not a fan of CW on BA 777.
It's like a flying dorm, I would avoid it at all costs.
CW in a 747 is however a far more attractive proposition due to the upstairs. My pick of seats 64A, 62 A/K, 64K in that order of preference

I'm with Princess Fiona on this one. :)

Thanks guys. It leaves at midnight HKK and gets in at 5am, so hopefully we spend a good portion of the flight asleep. As long as there's decent champers, a hot meal, a flat bed and a quiet cabin... Should be ok. Must admit the cabin layout looks pretty ordinary to me, but I'm also happy to not be doing anovernighter in QF's slippy-seats. They're like trying to sleep in a badly pitched tent.

Theres 4 of us so will try to score 2 rows of 2 rather than the 4-across in the middle.

I flew on BA J on a (new) 777 recently. Yes, the cabin is big, and despite not being a 777 fan (regardless of cabin class or airline), I found it OK. You may want to get more forward in the cabin or it may take a while to be served.

The BA J isn't bad. I actually quite like the rearward facing seats. It's a different feeling at take off landing - a bit counterintuitive if you you are used to flying a lot facing the front. The beds are good and I managed a full night's sleep the last time I went with them.
I try and avoid BA as much as possible (vowed never again after a Heathrow lounge dragon experience) but will admit that the product is pretty reasonable in J/F on international routes.

Rear-facing I'm fine with. Flew a couple of times in military aircraft and both times rear facing: safer by all accounts.

I guess from BA's point of view it lets them put more people into their J cabin: the sardine principle.

Many happy flights with BA in J.....only 747 though.

The seats are pretty good, very comfortable & 10's times better then the one you're going to have to lie in on the first leg.

If you are traveling with young kids the middle 4 seats are perfect for a 2 kids/2 parent set up.

Our two kids are 13 and 16, so they're way happier away from their uncool parents...

Eldest daughter uses a wheelchair, and uses the aisle chair on board to access bathroom. Best for all concerned is getting her an aisle seat as close to the bathroom as possible... in this cabin, that means the front rows. That's what I'll try for anyway (think I'm currently allocated row 13, middle)

(I'm guessing WP/Emerald status gets me some kind of decent choice on BA? Haven't flown on them for ages)

BA has been pretty good in recognising QF Emerald status in my experience (in terms of seat allocation).

Agree with that - as OWE I've been able to select 1A/1K......these seats are reserved for BAEC Gold members!

If you already have a PNR you should be able to select seats now via Manage my Booking on the BA website, which will recognise your OWE status.
