Now I'm sure this has probably been discussed previously but I haven't come across it so here my suggestion to RedRoo.

Remove MASA's (let's face it, this will probably happen in time anyway)
stop DSC offers

Instead offer SC's only on all award flights. (Points would be nice but maybe a little too much to ask)

The benefit would be;
Removes the need for ASA's (although fee surcharges would still be an issue)
removes the shambles that is the MASA booking process
Will keep AFF's happy (I hope but I'm sure some people will find this upsetting or just doesn't work for them)
status will actually be awarded for flying, not just being lucky with a DSC or two
it may increase redemption rates (I'd probably book more awards) this may then reduce the massive liability QF must have of unused points (supposition on my part).

What do people think? Crazy, stupid, might work, or never going to happen????

Brilliant idea.
So brilliant it probably won't get up.
Makes perfect sense to me though.

And that is a very good idea as well but somehow I don't think Qantas is going to go down this path.

These flights should also count towards eligible sectors (~).

Sensible idea - but probably not ideal (for us or for QF) for a couple of reasons.

1/ Previously - you had to have a little knowledge (and be prepared to make the effort) to get SC-earning ASAs at minimal points.
Therefore - most Frequent Spenders would either just redeem Classics (and therefore not be earning status - which incurs a real cost to QF in lounge and other benefits), or they were redeeming ASAs at a higher margin for QF.

2/ Now - the situation is the same - except the percentage redeeming MASAs is probably even lower.

3/ Under your proposal the Frequent Spenders will continue to redeem Classics but will now be earning SCs.

End result for QF is that there will be more Status Holders from Frequent Spenders than there currently are.

That said - I actually think it's a good idea - and QF's concern is not justified (just as the DSC concern is invalid).

Reason is simple - people may be earning status easier - but unless they are actually then flying at that higher level - their impact/cost on Status Benefits is minimal.

Heck, I've always held a few unpopular beliefs including -

1. Reward flights should earn points & SCs & count towards eligible sectors (hence simplifying the program from an administration point of view).

2. GST should be applied to everything bought & sold within AUS (removes all exemptions and questions making administrations easier) and compensation could be in the form of changed income tax rates.

But once again I seem to be in the vast minority.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I am sure that someone with more savvy than me will do the numbers. BUT I suspect that FF's will be just that. And they will earn status as a result. The joe and jenny public might fly a little more. But suspect not. Points still need to be earned. ( by a variety of means ) fewer points. = fewer flights.
The clever AFF'r. Will use their points more judiciously and from that perspective I see no real change to the status quo
