Hi - I byo entertainment for local & international Qantas flights. I've been using a foldable laptop that I bring out after the seat belt light goes out. I want to switch to something smaller that I can use as soon as I sit down and I'm thinking about the new iPad 9.7 or a Samsung 10" tablet. The pre-flight announcements say that anything not larger than the A4 seat pocket instruction cards doesn't have to be put away. I think either of these should be ok but I thought I'd confirm before buying - anybody use these during take off/landing and do you ever have any issues? Thanks.

I have a surface pro and haven't as yet been asked to stow it. (I keep the keyboard folded underneath).

I technically think that the surface pro is larger than the permissible size but I haven't run into any troubles yet.

Don't go any bigger - I have the large iPad Pro, it fails your test.

I have samsung tablet (9.7") and use it from the moment i sit down. Just have to hold it in my hands until set belt sign is switched off and then can hang off the seat in front.

A lady seated next to me who had a significantly bigger ipad (12.9 inches) was told she needed to put in bag under seat until after take-off.
