Sky-high ... an artist's impression of the new 747-8. Despite its size it has a wingspan 10 metres shorter than the Airbus A380, yet its overall length is 3.4 metres longer.

OK so whilst not my personal style, the VIP interior is very impressive. I'm sure that I could tough it out in there if I had to :D

Would love to fly on the 747-8 one day (probably the non-VIP version).

Except to do that currently it would need to be LH and i hope it was in J or F since generally there has been much better whY choices.

Interesting to see the finished product but at the end of the day the main thing that matters to me is the seat and that is the airlines choice.

I liked the normal interior. I hated the VIP interior. (Not a style which I like at all).

Now lets hope that the airlines get behind the 748. (It'd be nice if QF could as well, I couldn't imagine QF without a 747 service)

Good to see that production is going ahead and LH still has an order for 20. It would be good to see some other airlines getting behind the 747-8.

It is difficult to imagine air travel without a 747 in the skies....

Thanks funny :D The things that desingers come up with.....

I love the library. What happens on landing (or take off)? All the books fly off the shelve during the brkaing phrase? lol (or acceleration during takeoff)

Imagine the injury if your up the ladder when the aircraft hits turbulence? :picture flying through the air, back arched, to land on a table full of wine glasses and dinner.

designers, god love 'em  :D

That's what they said about the DC-3! :D

On a slightly pedantic note, I think it is the 747-8, as referred to in your post, and not the 748, as referred to in a previous post? Will stand corrected as always, but keen to know.

That was well before my time. We are in the here and now and I think the most impressive aircraft has been the 747. One good thing is that QF's 747-400ER's were only delivered this decade so not too old and these will hopefully be around for at least another 10 years. And the last passenger model 747 only got off the production line last year or this year.

I don't know where the A380 will fit in the mix but if it lasts another 40 years then it will deserve to be spoken as highly as the 747....

What?
The DC-3 is still part of air travel today. It is not to hard to get yourself on a trip involving a DC-3. Say to the birdsville races or similar outback tour. The DC-3 was still flying regular passenger services from Cairns in the 1980s. Can't for the life of me remember the name of the airline but my best mate at primary schoool invited to his dad's work christmas party. Dad just happen to be a pilot with this airline and we all; got a spin around in one of the DC-3s.

Maybe that was over by the end of the 1980s, I con't exactly remember when I didn't see a dc-3 at the cairns airport anymore.

Yeah, I imagine there are still a few floating about... I was really referring to mainline scheduled arlines like QF. :)

I'd actually be interested in tracking a DC-3 down and taking a flight, just for curiosity's sake.
