Hi,
Am planning a short trip to the Golden Triangle in India over about 6-7 days and am seeking tips and advice.
My current rough plan is to hire a car and driver to get us around. Any recommendations for this would be appreciated.
Plan to stay 1-2 nights in Delhi, then a night in Agra, 1-2 nights in Jaipur, then remainder in Delhi again before leaving.
Am also seeking must do's, dangers and general advice.
Thanks

We enjoyed a fantastic trip to India in 2007. Our Golden Triangle section was greatly enhanced by our driver who was a local from Jaipur & had excellent knowledge & communication skills. I was worried about getting crook but our driver said he would look after us & the entire trip to India went without worries in that area. We opted the Heritage hotels standard & thought the money was well spent-got a lot of extra for very few $
I wouldn't spend such a % of time in Delhi that you have outlined but each to their own. From my recent reading I believe that car & driver hire is still the best way to see the real India. Let me know if you want current contact details of our driver(have emailed him recently re going to Nthn India)-I leave home Thurs AM on a Central Aust trip.

Thanks RB for the reply.
Yep would appreciate your driver's contact details.
Am planning to book my own accommodation, get a car and driver to bring us around

I was in India in January 2011. My experience was that dealing with locals in the big cities such as Delhi can be very exhausting as they are often trying to make money from you, send you to their friend's/family store to buy something etc and it is very in your face and intense. So my recommendation would be to organise as much as you can before you go, so you don't need to worry about that sort of thing when you are there. India is a very beautiful country, especially in the south - it's hard to enjoy it if you feel like you constantly have to be on your guard. Having a driver to take you around will probably mitigate that though. I only spent a few nights in Delhi. The only touristy thing we did was visit the Red Fort which was interesting. Unfortunately we didn't get to Agra (too little time) or Jaipur so I can't add anything in respect of those cities.

I travelled to India and did a similar trip in January this year.
The travel agent was New Delhi based but recommended by his best mate from school who works with my sister in Canberra.
I'll find the travel agent's details and send them to you via PM.

Just make sure you don't head to Agra on a Friday.
A wise recommendation.
