I've just heard from from my wife who is flying tonight from Melbourne to Kalgoorlie, they have returned to Melbourne and Police have boarded the flight.. I will advise when I know more.

Drug affected Bogan, who will never work again in the mining industry once I find his name, apparently threatening staff. GRRRR.

If it's a "terrorist" it takes 60+ minutes for the police to enter the plane...so in this case it had to be booze or drug!:p

Apparently a gentleman seated toward the rear of the aircraft (737-8) made threats toward the CSM saying he would cause harm to the staff and the pilot of the aircraft. The CSM Lynda was able to talk to the chap who admitted that he had taken some drug, so she offered him a better seat up in the empty J section of the AC, so he could sort himself out.
Just over the Vic / SA border the AC turn around and the captain made an announcement that they are expecting turbulence and for all pax to belt up. Upon landing back in Melbourne the police entered from the rear of AC and escorted him out the front. All handled with the utmost of professionalism per my wife ( she was in row 4), much clapping of hands for the crew so im told.

Why would they move him to the front of the plane closer to the pilot? Surely it would've been better to keep him at the rear and move anybody near him?

Especially since the police boarded from the rear and then had to make their way to the front of the plane?

I'd guess, to try and keep him away from as many pax as possible ?

J cabin was empty? Last I flew a FIFO route, all the other J seats were FIFOs sleeping (just came off shift by the looks of them).

Glad it turned out well, annoying but I guess miners get "tired and emotional" at times as well.

kalboy, not having a go, but how did your wife, in row 4, know what was said etc at the back of the plane? Surely not via FAs? 'Drug' = illicit or prescription?

Moving a disruptive or threatening pax to J sounds pretty odd to me.

Well I guess having him upfront he wouldn't have seen the police come aboard.

The captain informed all the passengers what had occurred over the PA after the gentleman had left the aircraft.

That most likely would have escalated the situation immediately.

Yes, a prudent precaution and tactic. Seen it done on Amtrak, with an individual brought into the largely-unoccupied premium cabin and apprehended at the next station. It definitely assists law enforcement in resolving the situation.

Glad all turned out ok.

After recent events in the US, I'm surprised there isn't smartphone film of the incident already going viral
