Still searching PER-FLL

Why does Qantas offer these impossible connections. Less than an hour and 2 different terminals.

why do you say it's 'impossible'??? looking at the terminal map for AA at DFW on the ONEWORLD website it all looks rather 'doable'

Publiched Minimum Connect Time in DFW from AA Dom to QF Int is 50 minutes (unless coming from Bahamas) - so valid connections.
DFW is generally a pretty efficient airport.

Coming from International to a domestic flight- you dont think need to do Immigration at DFW, what about bag picup or can they check through from Perth?

FLL-DFW-SYD does not require any immigration or customs at DFW. 55 mins is a legal connection and achievable at that airport. The transit is all done "air-side" so no security screening etc to be dine, just get from one gate to the other which is quite efficient at DFW.

Now if it was the other way (SYD-DFW-FLL_ then 55 mins is not enough as you have inbound immigration and customs procedures at DFW.

I actually found that whole experience quite amazing. Inward the security procedures are way over the top, yet on the way out, not one Iota of care - not a single mechanism to tick off that you've left the USA within your allowed stay.

The shortest international to domestic connection in that screen shot is like 2 hours. Very possible in SYD. 5 hours in Brisbane should be heaps.

Imposible at some airports, but not at DFW. FWIW i'd take the second of those two connections (in SYD the first one can be a bit tight - although you are "protected" there arent as many SYD-PER options.)

Are you welded to QF as from PER decent fares could be had with CX via HKG (which isnt a hugely longer travel time)?

55mins, 21:05 to 22:00 at DFW.

We have flown AA MIA-DFW-NRT with the flight from MIA being late into DFW leaving 45 minutes between. We made it with enough time to go to Terminal D AC and have a quick drink to calm our nerves.

Doc, - CX is currently showing AUD$9841- PER-FLL return for early 2013...

But the FLL-PER One-way is only $1364-.

That's domestic to international, isn't it?

Not sure what you are referring to here. Transferring at DFW (from FLL) to SYD would be Domestic to International. Thats why I was concerned about the 50 minute transfer but others seem to think its OK. Unless of course, I clear Immigration control when leaving FLL. Depends on terminal leaving from at FLL, if its anything like PER, we have both Domestic and International terminals, so for eg. flying PER-LA via SYD, I would probably leave PER from Domestic Terminal and then have to clear Immigration in SYD to enable me to board the SYD-LA....... In that scenario, 50 minutes, no way enough time. Am hoping its different when I get to DFW from FLL as only have 50 mins.

Leaving the United States, you don't actually go through immigration. As long as your passport is checked at check in, there is absolutely no immigration to be seen getting on an INT flight out of the USA. Hence why 55mins is more than enough.

I've done a domestic to domestic connection at Cincinnati airport on delta with only 23mins to connect (delayed). My bag even made it to the final destination. Its amazing how well American airports can actually run when the need to....

departure immigration 'formalities" consist of the check-in agent checking your passport. They used to collect the stub from the green I94-W form that was stapled to your passport on arrival, but that has changed with the recent inbound changes. Since you will be checking-in for your international flight at FLL, that is where the checks are done.

There is no separation of domestic and international departures at USA airports. Passengers for both domestic and international flights mix in the same terminals. You will clear security screening at FLL and all transfers at DFW can be done "air-side" so no need for any further security screening after you arrive at DFW.

I've done some pretty quick transfers at DFW - It is an efficient airport for terminal transfers, although you do need to get to their skytrain and choose the right one.
