So I made a deal the boss to bypass company policy and fly W instead of J so I could attend an event in the UK. My first plan was to fly QF as that is where I have all frequent flyer benefits and I usually just scrape my Gold renew each year (I need 410sc by end of November). But prices for QF W in May are in excess of $6000, while premium economy on BA, Cathay and Singapore are all below $4000 from SYD. So the options are:
a) Book flexi Y on QF and gamble on using my points to upgrade to J
b) Fly CA in W, and get the same points as Y on QF (or do I? I can't reconcile the QF point calculator and the partner charts)
c) Fly CA in W, scrape points out of Accor and IHG to Asia Miles, credit outwards flight to same program, then request upgrade to J on return. Forego any SC.
d) Fly BA, and be disappointed in their offering. Credit to QF
e) Fly Singapore, get the best experience, and use Priority Pass in Singapore and UK on return. End up with small Krisflyer point balance.
Thoughts on best option? If I fly BA, I can arrive in Leeds, everyone else I can arrive in Manchester, but all an option for LHR.
